Aetna / AmCon Referral Program

Just wanted to put a Kudos out there to counter the tide of FE carriers who have the more robust 'Business Prevention' departments and/or other agent un-friendly practices.

I'm recently contracted with Aetna, and found an email recently where they will send your new biz client some referral cards, and a 'free gift' for sending in the referral cards. If your client sends in some referral cards, Aetna sends them to you free of charge!

I think that is awesome, compared to some of the debbie downer things some carriers do in FE, like:

TA's recent 'new form' requirement which affected even those apps which were already sent in and pending.
TA again, who every time I fill out the Supplimental form, they still ping a req for me to explain all the Rx that appeared on the MIB report.
RNA who cuts off their POS PHI at 3pm on Saturdays.
UHL who only recently offered any PHI Saturday hours at all (although previously you could call in to set an appointment for the time that you were going to be making a sale that day LOL er ROFLOL! How out of touch is that?)
UHL which requires applicants to pay $ for their own APS.
ANY FE carrier that doesn't offer to pay on approval, and instead waits for policy issue to pay comp. (draft day). Hey UHL, do I buy leads once a month? Do I fill my gas tank once a month? GeezUs!
TA who has approx 15 page app and 20 signatures required...wtf?
TA who takes over 48hrs to even assign an UW sometimes!
RNA who keeps sending me email spam about their 1% annuity and crap like that...girls, I don't sell your annuities!
Any carrier (most) that dosn't have just ONE BUTTON that takes me to a page that lists ALL business I've submitted (for a date range) and current status of that biz. For example, TA has like 5 paths to find your policies, it is insane.
All carriers who do not offer the Wednesday SSI drafts...gosh how hard could it be???

The FE market is pretty competitive, and will likely get more-so in the future...there are agents out there who will be looking for decent rates, but also the easiest - most helpful carrier to do business with.

I've not submitted anythign to Aetna yet, maybe they are a PITA to deal with, I don't know....but when I saw the referral program, I thought wow this is a great idea, they're actually trying to help me write more business with them!

What are some things that make you wish you didn't have to write a particular carrier?
What are some really GREAT things some carriers do for you?
What is your wish list (within reason) the carriers could do to help both you and they make more business?

Who are the carriers who are actually "In Touch" with the FE market and what us agents have to put up with?

What are some of the more 'out of touch' practices ie just clueless how this market works?

I like Amercian Continental, but I don't like that they not longer pay commissions for any final expense application for clients ages 45-59.

When you write business with them, you will also get a phone call thanking you for using them.

You will love Amcon...by far the easiest company I write for. That and when Mildred says she has a bag full of medicines...I jist go straight to the application.

This is how ACI/Aetna pays, on issue/draft, not on approval. Just FYI.

Aetna's senior products FE, Med Sup, Cancer plan, the new Critical Illness are great and I love how everything needed comes in the packets. The only real weak link with them is their contracting department. They need to clean house on that group. Who ever is in charge needs to put someone on the project of cleaning up their forms, processes and making them easier to add states and products. They are easily the worst company in the business when it comes to the contracting department.

I've got to admit that I really like AETNA as well. I put in 6 apps for $7011 ap with them this week. So easy to work with. They are about $3 per month higher than Americo or RNA but the lack of aggravation is worth it. I normally don't put all my business with one company but I have several people that I have to waste a day driving around and re writing business that was shoved into the UP3 junk drawer because they were "unable to create a complete underwriting profile" or some garbage like that. Also, best PHI in the business.
