Just got off the phone with a prospect. She is looking for major med coverage for her diabetic husband. Said she just did an app with Aetna for a new plan that covers diabetics.

Anyone have any info on this?

Aetna will take SOME type II diabetic in some situations.

The applicant must be a non-smoker, not overweight, and have their condition under control. If they have any other health conditions they will be rejected.

This is not new. They have been doing it for at least 3 years here in GA and presumably in other states as well.

I have had many approvals with Aetna for diabetics that are no insulin-dependent.

They are also good at getting really FAT people approved.

You can pretty much guarantee with their LIBERAL underwriting they will be out of the market again in 3 years.

I would not classify Aetna as liberal.

There are some things where they shine and others where they suck. Overall I give them a "B". They are not my "go to" carrier for most things.

Aetna is not liberal at all - example ONE daily herpes RX = decline.

Plus they rate up to 50% additional premium

Not liberal at all , they are good for some - not others - they have many specific niches.
