American Community Mutual

well, as u know they just rode into texas with their little b+ rating and not much else.... rates too high and they have a 500 limit on outpat dr. and such.... that amounts to about 3 dr. visits a year.

also in order to be competitive u gotta slap a 70% to 15k on the policy... about 2500 more than norm and then their rates are "in line" except ith unicare who guts them.

all in all... 500 max on out pat. 4500 co insurance b+ rating and rates only in the middle... no can do

I was a big producer for them when I first started. Actually they were all I wrote in the begining.

They are a great carrier from a customer service standpoint.
I was able to claims covered that should of been denied. Anytime some one had a deviated septum I could pull off a knose job for them too. Some women were very happy with me about that.

What has happen to them is they have had horrible leadership. About 7 years ago AC was the biggest indiviudal health insurance company in the country and they were only in 7 states. They took on so much bad business that got down graded when their reserves got very low.
They have let technology pass the by from a consumer standpoint. There new plan designs I think are decent.
From an indiviudal standpoint you have 3 base plans Gold, Silver and Bronze. Then you design the plan for the client.

In my state on the indiviudal side they have a nitch market.
Age 30-49 is where they are most competitve. My state they ryder on conditions which can be a good thing or bad.
When you submit an app with them its best to stay on top of the underwritiers and they will work much faster for you.

I still write business with them because I know they will pay claims.

I heard from home office at AC that they were going direct in Texas and cutting out brokers on the indiviudal side?

Thanks for the info. I received a card in the mail trying to recruit me for appointment. Whether or not I plan on seeking appointment with these companies that come calling, I at least try to find out a little about them so I know kinda what the other guy is doing.

Unicare's Enhanced FIT plans are definitely better in benefits than this plan, but being rate-competitive depends on the zip. Down in central Texas, Unicare seems to be less competitive in some instances.

Although the plan has a $500 limit on outpatient doctor benefits, it's nice that it will pay for labs and things. I also like the $1000 of preventative care annualy.

Not a huge fan of 70% to $15,000, but the inluded vision visit is a unique (not incredibly beneficial) benefit.

People want outpatient office visits and preventative care with few restrictions. I would like to see more plans with liberal preventative care, ER benefits (not subject to deductible), and no internal cap on prescriptions.

That also reminds me of the RX card with AC. It's not the worst, but it's a percentage versus a copay. There is no cap, but with an incredibly expensive RX, it could get pricey.

Then again, a $1000 ded (no RX ded with AC but optional to bring price down) which more and more plans now have prevents many from getting much use out of their RX plan at all.

The AC Medalist plans have their pros and cons... we'll see at this point...

weren't these the guys who tried to blow on in here under the name of like "precedent" for about two weeks and then blew outta here? had billboards and radio adds for a while.

A.C. ratings not likely to have any effect on anybody. How many prospects ask about or understand ratings. About the same number as agents understand ratings. F.Y.I. ratings has nothing to do with E&O. It is still up to the agent to provide accurate information and fit the plan to their clients needs.
I have read the same thing about Right start, Mega etc.
A year ago my broker recommended stocks in Countryside, Merrel, Lehman, Citi\corp, Morgan. all highly rated financials.
All in the toilet now. My broker is now looking to sell insurance. his E&O. is clean. So much for ratings. It is good for advertising, but many agents, very many, are with B companies and still alive and well.

When they get an online application and offer me a MGA or higher contract, I will put it on the table. I know what their top contacts pay and it makes UHC Key Broker look like chump change.

Correction - Do they have an online app? Am I mixing them up with Coventry? Who is missing the online app?
