Am I in love with living in the current market I am in? If so & that is in California, I wouldnt start in the PC insurance sales. It may be many years, if ever, that California will be a viable PC insurance market for quality carriers or agents to make it....not just new carriers or new agents, existing carriers & existing agents. If you were a brand new insurance agent, what would you do to get started?
Keep in mind, I am not a P&C guy, so I believe the other respondents that it will be very tough. If you wanted to stay in CA, you might want to work for an enroller of voluntary benefits. Enrollers are needed to go to employer worksites and educate/assist employees with their selections. Reach out to worksite/voluntary benefit providers in your area and ask them. This will allow you to make some money and learn while you get your business up and running. You should go to your local NABIP website and search through the "find an agent" data to identify some of these people. If you were a brand new insurance agent, what would you do to get started?
