Brand new agent in CA

If you were a brand new insurance agent, what would you do to get started?
Am I in love with living in the current market I am in? If so & that is in California, I wouldnt start in the PC insurance sales. It may be many years, if ever, that California will be a viable PC insurance market for quality carriers or agents to make it....not just new carriers or new agents, existing carriers & existing agents.

You will have a very hard time finding any carriers to appoint you in California or even respond to you. Very well established agents are having a hard time.

I would likely either move to a new market if you are passionate (after full research) of getting into PC or Mult-line. California, New York, Florida would be last on my list to be in PC sales

Keep in mind, I am not a P&C guy, so I believe the other respondents that it will be very tough. If you wanted to stay in CA, you might want to work for an enroller of voluntary benefits. Enrollers are needed to go to employer worksites and educate/assist employees with their selections. Reach out to worksite/voluntary benefit providers in your area and ask them. This will allow you to make some money and learn while you get your business up and running. You should go to your local NABIP website and search through the "find an agent" data to identify some of these people.

Thank you all for responding. I was thinking to start getting people I know (family and friends) on their auto policy, and then their home owners insurance. Maybe not on my "own" initially but through an existing agency as a contractor or similar. Also selling friends and family to start, health, life etc. For example, my family is all with Mercury insurance and I know alot of pleple with Mercury. I could maybe sign 5 policies for car right off the bat.
