Finding a Mentor

Hello everyone!

I am not exactly new to the website, but I am newly signed up. I have been looking through the threads, trying to get familiar with everything.

I am seeking out advice on how to go about getting a mentor. I have become close with a few agents I have met along my journey trying to find a good company to work for and we all feel a little stuck as far as getting started. I would like to find someone who could take us under their wing and teach us the business.

We just don't know where to start, being new agents. We have tried working for a few agencies and none of them seem to have a good training program in place. They just want to throw is out there with no idea what to say or how a typical appointment should go.

If possible, I would like to find someone who would like to mentor a group of people or possible even run an agency with all of us as your agents. We are all ready to go, we are hungry and ready to learn and work hard. We just need someone who is good at training and showing us hands on.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If you want to speak with me directly, please PM me.

It would help if you specified what type of insurance you're wanting to sell.

You're on the right track!
A mentor can be a really big deal to jump start your progress.
We recently wrote a blog on how to get a mentor.
Insurance Mentor | rallyform

Let me summarize it for you:
Ask people you know – I’m sure within your network of friends & family you probably know an insurance agent. Ask. See if they will meet with you. You’d be surprised how many more experience agents are willing to help someone that is interested in learning.
Call – Yes, it will probably take a few calls but insurance agents are a pretty helpful group of people. If the call goes well, set up a meeting and present the idea.
Pay Up – If you have the funds, pay someone that will specifically invest in you and keep you accountable. There are many professional coaches and mentors that can quickly get you moving. I’ve personally used paid coaches before and I can’t say enough good things about them.

I recommend this group out of Virginia Beach, Ace Capital is the name of the investment firm. Anyway, the guy that owns it is highly experienced and didn't charge me a dime. In fact, he practically set me up in business with the vendors, carriers, business plan and even offered to let me see his best agents in action. Didn't charge me a red cent!!!! Look this firm up. Mr. Royal was the guy's name.
Mr. "Royal" at "Ace Capital"? Sounds like a payday loan operation. This post has a funny smell to it. Newbies should proceed with caution. Caveat emptor.

Sorry about that. This is for life insurance.

That is still a generalized area. Have you considered what market segment might be most appealing to you. Business (any specialty area?), Final Expense (also known as burial), General Family Market, Mortgage Protection, College Funding, etc? Also would help if you told what state(s) you intend to work.
