It's less bribery and more regulatory capture primarily caused by governments reliance on the industries it regulates to help write regulations because the government typically lacks the expertise to do so without such input. Because that expertise is typically better compensated in the private sector.
Yeah. That's why I said indirect.

That "expertise" is for the sole benefit of the industry doing the lobbying, which is bullshit.

There needs to be some balance where a government official is also an expert in a particular industry. This whole model is rife with corruption.

But I guess it's like the AM Best vs. Goldman Sachs issue...no one who truly knows a balance sheet is going to work for Best when they can 10x at Goldman.
