Prospect somehow didn't pay their Part B and wants to wait until FRA which will be June 1 2025 before collecting Social Security.
I believe since they let their Part B on self pay lapse 4/30/24, they would still have to re-enroll in Part B by 3/31/25, the end of the general enrollment period, & pay the 1st 3 months--including the late enrollment penalty. Then once Social Security starts, it will be deducted. Correct? I don't think applying for Social Security would give them an extension on enrolling in Part B in this situation.

This is correct. If they haven't applied by 3/31, they have to sit it out until Jan 1 next year.

They still have the option to pay qtrly but yes.

If I understand what you are saying, this is news. I thought as soon as Social Security starts, the Part B is automatically deducted from the Social Security payment, and no option in my awareness to opt for monthly or quarterly payments direct to Medicare, or, say, EZPay. Not that any of my clients were interested in keeping separate billing. What I have seen is billing stops and deduction begins. If they overlap, the Medicare/Social Security recipients are reimbursed for the time of double pay.

I've only seen it done once. Had a client that insisted that nothing be deducted from his SS check and insisted that he be allowed to continue paying qtrly. They let him do it.

But you are correct. The normal way is to stop the qtrly invoices and begin automatic deductions.
