Just wondering if the persistency is better with graded policies as compared to first day policies?

Depends.

If sold because there were no full first day coverage options, then I'd imagine persistency would be decent.

If sold arbitrarily and not with the client's best interest in mind, you would most likely experience worse persistency.

I have never sold one arbitrarily just to try to make an easy sale. The only reason I have ever sol one is because it was the only possible option I had avaiable. But my persistency has never been as good on them as it is with 1st day coverage. I think possibly it is because when people get to thinking about it they think the value is not there for their family. After all, to them they are not "all that sick, I just had a little touch of heart trouble and COPD"..

Note for newbs: When they get their policies in hand, they will show first year face amount. Client will think they are paying a huge premium for a very small face amount. If you don't deliver the policy, make a follow up call.

Most people aren't worried about dying in the first two years either. Be sure to use stories that involve families only getting ROP. Be sure to reference AARP as ROP and be sure pricing is competitive with them. Especially for smokers.

I've only noticed persistency to be worse because they die at a higher rate than those with a level plan.
