Got a lead from Humana. Lady looking for an HSA plan but had some questions about pre-ex. While I was getting info on her condition, I ran a quote and sent it to her. We talked some more, then she said she had to go to work.

About 10 minutes later she called back. Had a few more questions. I asked if she was ready to do the app and wanted my assistance.

She declined.

A few hours later I called my rep. Sure enough, the lady had submitted an app direct to Humana.

I gave my rep the quote number. She called back a few hours later to let me know the app is now credited to me.

What a country.

If you would have done it with aetna her email would have already been tagged to you.....

There is a service from the phone company called transfer disconnect. Costs maybe $10/mo. Have the client CALL YOU back (if you failed to close) and YOU call Humana phone app - when the time is right you back out of the call and they remain connected.

Do not give the client the opportunity to go direct and this will not happen as often. It is worth looking into as you can control the process more yet you do not have to sit on the conference call for an hour while they do the phone application.

Just a thought anyhow...

Why would you want someone like that for a client?
Did you at least call her back and "thank her" for becoming YOUR new client?:goofy:

With the speed of issue and the ability to take on conditions Humana is quickly moving up the ladder. Plus with the 3 different ways to apply, they got it going on.

In my area GR still has a little better rates, especially on the copay plans.

Sounds like you did not spend enough Time or any Time:

(1) Explaining to her your role as a Professional Agent, and the Importance and Value of your Service when submitting her application and the Underwriting process and your Responsibility after the policy is issued. Sounds like you went into direct sales mode.

She probably thought it Cost more to go thru you? and had no reason or Value to use you as an Agent. just my thoughts

I know this comes as a surprise to you Dave, but I don't close 100% of the folks I talk to. I close most, but not all.

She was squirrelly all along. Wanted the Total HSA (no Rx) even after I showed her the Total Plus HSA (with Rx) for only $4 more. I reviewed underwriting guides for other carriers, including Aetna that would decline her due to her condition. Pulled up rates for other carriers on similar plans, then told her Humana was the best choice, even with the condition rider.

Spent a total of close to 30 minutes with her.

Never felt a connection. She was being evasive on some direct questions.

On one hand, why bother with someone like that?

On the other, it was a freebie so I might as well take advantage of the $300 commission even if she never again takes my advice.

Cost more to go through me?

Nope. Covered that too. Sent her a link with the SAME rates as she was looking at with Humana direct.
