I have a client that is on a group Medicare Advantage plan through the State of Illinois and is looking to leave that and use her rights to get a medicare supplement. With that being said, on most applications it asks about both "other medicare plans than original medicare" as well as, if they had any other health insurance as well. Technically the answer is yes to both. Has anyone experienced this before? I called the underwriting dept of the Plan we are looking at and they were clueless. Any ideas??

You would choose "other Medicare plans". Meaning answer 'yes' to that question. Other health insurance generally pertains to health insurance for those not on Medicare (i.e. - group or indy health - again, for those not on Medicare). You would answer 'no' to that question.

Typically when folks leave, or are being dropped by their group coverage they have guaranteed acceptance into many medigap plans. She is leaving group coverage, but it is a Medicare advantage plan. That is where my confusion is I suppose.

No I completely get it. And to be quite honest, I would think answering 'yes' to either question would be sufficient in this case. But I'm just going by what I've done in the past.
