Hi All,

Great site! Being new to the industry, I really enjoy reading and learning from you guys - Thanks!
My plan is to learn how to go Independent and grow the business on my own starting in 2009. I have a good career as a commodities trader during the day but feel my abilities to build relationships and be frank with people will allow me to have a better career in insurance and afford me the ability to control my income and time greater.

I'm looking to concentrate my business on the Life Insurance side of things being that's where my passion lies. I guess my questions would be:

What steps do I need to take to go the Independent way?
Would you recommend a particular company to contract with?
What commission structures are on Life policies?
Selling 1-2 policies a week is my part time goal, is that realistic and if so, what type of commission earnings should I expect (like, what are the average policies worth?)

Sorry for all the questions but you guys seem to be a good group to get true answers from...

Happy Holidays!!

Regards,
Gary

Quite a few agents don't sell that many full time.

A lot depends on your market. Who you are selling to. The face amount. The type of coverage, all factors in.

Most of the questions you ask are way too broad. Suggest you hook up with someone like Mark Rosenthal (in this forum) as a start and go from there.
