I sell Final expense and Med Supp only. But ran into a case about a young man (25ish) that had testicular cancer in the past year. Fully recovered and now can not get health insurance due to his cancer. Are there any programs available for this individual.

Thanks for the help.

Tell him to get a part time job at Starbucks and enroll in their group health plan (there may be a waiting period for pre-existing conditions). Otherwise he'll probably have to wait 7 years with most major carriers to qualify for an indy plan.

There's always medicaid (last option) if he qualifies financially.

Man...I'm telling you..part time job at Starbucks or similar.

By the way, how and who was he insured with at the time of his condition?

There won't be a single good indy insurer that will take on this risk 1 year out of cancer.

In the client's best interest in order (if not a GI state & I don't think Arizona is):

1. Group health plan
2. State Risk Pool (expensive & long wait)
3. Medicaid
4. Self Insure (not recommended)

This is a family friend who is a struggling musician (aren't they all). At the time of being diagnosed and thru now, he is not covered. Long story short, the state provided all surgury, treatment, and care up to this point. It has been removed, but now has to start paying for the preventative care. He is trying to find a job (currently has one w/o healthcare) with health care coverage, but is hitting the wall because of his pre-existing condition.

Thanks for the help guys,

That's rough man, I feel for his situation. Look, if it were me...I wouldn't divulge my condition to any prospective employer if I felt I could do the job and not affect my performance....it's none of their damn business!

It is a violation of privacy laws and EEOC to divulge existing health concerns. If a woman walks in to apply for a job and is (very obviously) 8 months pregnant you can't even ask to confirm. If you turn her down for being preggo you better have a good reason such as she can't haul bricks around in her condition.

There are guaranteed-issue plans in Arizona that could be a resource for him. One great plan is $349 a month.
