Making Transition From Automotive Business

I'm brand new to this forum. Just going to read A TON and soak in as much as possible as I've been doing for the last few days. Making the transition from the auto sales industry (25 years as F&I and General Mgr) to insurance. Already licensed in Rhode Island and looking to start ASAP. I think that I'm going to concentrate on one specialization first such as FE until I'm knowledgeable and successful enough to expand to other areas. Currently looking at EFES, 360 and FEX.

Would appreciate any advice that anybody wants to throw my way. Thanks.

No. There are plenty of states west of me also. The OP and I are in New England

I thought I did have.... or do you mean the OP?

You currently only show 18 posts and the OP only had 1 post.

I came from 21 years in the car business as well. 14 selling Toyotas and F&I for 6 years. Just a couple of observations. I also spent 14 years in the mortgage industry.

When you first start out you will probably have days and weeks where you will wonder why you ever left the car business. Don't get frustrated, just keep your nose to the grindstone. It gets much better.

Try to determine how much handholding your going to need and let that guide you to the best place to work. Don't be afraid to settle for a smaller % up front if your going to receive good training. 85% of something is better than 120% of nothing.

This forum is an excellent source of very good pertinent information that you can use on a daily basis. Depending on where you start out, you may want to make a move for a higher % down the road. So keep your options open as much as possible. Or start with somebody who will be willing to bump up your pay as less handholding is required.

The good thing about this business is that when you get better you will have the ability to work when and if you want to. I have been in FE for around 5 years and I have never worked a weekend and rarely if ever work past 7 o'clock. Usually in the filed 2 days per week. If you need or want to make more money, work more hours.

Welcome to the mad house! Good news is you are looking into three good IMO's. Most people are looking into NAA, Bankers, and LH. Good luck! Not sure if you know this but Newby here is the top guy with FEX so you can look up his posts or PM him.
