Midwest National Life

Anybody know anything about this company?

Just spoke to a referral (late 50s') about switching their health insurance and when he gave me the price and deductible, it was way out of whack for a tobacco policy, unless this is their specialty or something.

Thanks in advance.

MWNL and Mega have been kissing cousins for years. Should be easy to tackle, especially for a smooth operator like you.

I try not to clutter my mind with companies like that, and really don't understand the appeal to clients, but they definitely have a niche.

After replacing a Mega policy for a family last year, they were thrilled, at the time. Six months later they dropped the policy and went back to Mega.

I asked her why she changed, was it the price? She told me no, it was about the same. The agent came to her house and asked her to switch back, so she did.

Then she asked me to give her quotes on life insurance. She was interested in changing policies. After speaking with her a few minutes more, I realized that this is what she does, jumps from one policy to the next, for no reason that makes any sense.

I could easily have gotten her to switch her health back with me, but really didn't want to pursue it.

Are you familiar with this type of client?

Very familiar.

I refer them to some guy named Bill in NC.

Seriously, I have had a few like this over the years. They buy from me, later drop it, then come back and buy again.

I try not to get bent out of shape over it but you can bet when they come back they get minimal attention from me.

I also have a few who shop their coverage every year then come back and ask if they should change. I point out the difference in what they have vs what they are considering. Most of the time they keep what they have.

Some folks are drive by shoppers. Others are serial buyers. Both are a PITA.

I still have friends that work for Healthmarkets. From what I'm told, the Mega name is going away and all policies will be issued under MW. There is no difference in underwriting, just a different piece of paper.

I just tried to get rid of a guy like that...

He's been in my book for about three years, every year at the renewal/rate increase when I called him to let him know I'd shop it, he'd go up an down my back like I was setting the rates or something.

This time I decided to try something different, as I really wanted to be done with him.

This year he told me when I called the he was going to get some "outside quotes". I told him that obviously I had made some sort of error in developing a relationship of trust, and he should really take one of the other "outside" quotes.

I was hoping he would, but he didn't.
