NC Plans for California in 2026

Besides WellCare, are we aware of any other PDP carriers going non-commissionable for 2026? Is there a thread I haven't found that discusses this?

Have you already seen that WC will remain NC for 2026? The only reason I ask is because I was told late last year that WC attempted to get CMS to allow them to pay commission after they got the bribe. CMS said no. Makes me wonder if they will reverse course and try and win agents back. The only way I will consider it is if they pay me back the nearly $20k they didn't pay me this year.

I've gotten my WC MAPD book down to 5 cases and will work on replacing those this coming year.

Yes, I assumed they wouldn't come back to us--- but I had no idea they approached CMS! How would WC even undo what they did? PDP commissions are so small anyways, it's a huge hit to lose plans. I am still tiny, so I didn't lose anywhere near the volume you did. I am sorry! That is terrible.

I really have no idea if they will come back or not. Just found it interesting when my FMO told me that. WC may discover they were profitable without paying us on PDP and keep it that way so we will soon see.

I really hope they felt it in their bottom line like we did last year!

You and me both. I still put plenty of people on the Value Script plan this year because it was right for the client. And I did it with me as the agent. What I'd really love is for WC to say they are going to pay renewals on all existing PDP's moving forward. Not holding my breath, but that would be nice.

Well, the fact that they took away our renewals was absolutely disgusting. It's one thing to not pay on new business, but on existing business? That is just slimey!

Exactly. At least when Aetna stopped paying commissions on PDP, they continued paying renewals on the existing book.

It's funny you bring this up. That proves a big pt on something . People always squawk that carriers need agents . WellCare proved that not true with their no commission pdp. They had a great plan and still killed it without agents . Why can't mapd have a great plan with no commission?

We assume WC killed it without agents (although agents who do the right thing still recommend it for their Med Supp clients when it's a fit). We have no idea what kind of profit (or loss) they have on that one product.

As for why they can't have a great MAPD with no commission, it's because there are lots of moving parts (Rx, network, copays, etc) that need to be considered. You get a client with more than 3 doctors and there's a good chance they aren't all in WC's network. I've heard from several doctors offices over the years that they hate dealing with WC.

And as I stated earlier, assuming some carriers go no commission on MAPD, there are going to be carriers who want to gain market share and will pay commission and design plans to gain that market share.
