Obamacare is, at its core, Romneycare across state lines. The origin of many of the ideas in the legislation came from the Health Equity and Access Reform Today Act of 1993, the Republican proposal based on the Heritage Foundation’s paper Assuring Affordable Health Care For All Americans, written in 1989.
In fact the healthcare reform bill crafted by the Senate included 161 amendments authored by Republicans. Only 49 Republican amendments were rejected out of 210 considered. Yet the bill got zero Republican votes when it passed out of the committee.
And the mandate that we all carry health care insurance, was an idea forged not by liberal social engineers at the Brookings Institution but by conservative economists at the Heritage Foundation. The individual mandate recognizes that millions of Americans who could buy health insurance choose not to, because it requires trading away today’s wants for tomorrow’s needs. The mandate is about personal responsibility — a hallmark of conservative thought.
Republicans conveniently forget that this was something many of them had supported for years.
The only thing wrong with the mandate and Obamacare? It’s President Obama’s signature legislation!

Tater and I are hardly "downtrodden" but possibly more rested and clear headed now that the mayhem of OE is over. In other words we're able to take a 33,000 ft. altitude view of the situation.
I watched the committee hearings, the republicans ammendments approved were spelling error changes only. It was Olympia snowe that let it get out of committee to allow debate on the floor that never happened. She was an optimist before the partisanship was started by dems
