I have seen a shift with Allstate and some indy's have it. Does anyone know how the Indy program works or who to contact?

Like, indy agents with actual Allstate-branded companies? Haven't heard about that. I know they're dipping their fingers into other companies, like everyone else. I've got Encompass, which is an Allstate company, but outside of that I'm not aware of anything like what you're talking about. I'm not terribly in the know about Allstate, though. ;)

It's not new in this area. Many of the independent agencies have been able to write Allstate for as long as I can remember.

I've had the same P&C agent for almost 30 years. He's had Allstate available for at least 10 years.

Interesting. I googled it real quick and it appears Allstate can be represented by independent agents in "rural areas where Allstate does not deploy exclusive agents". Learn something new every day, I guess.

We have the regular ole captive Allstate agencies in this area too. They are probably not happy having to compete with the independent agenies but that's just how it is.

Wonder which came first. Maybe the indy guys were already appointed with allstate and they just dont take it away even once the captives move in town?

At any rate, I cant say much. I'm captive Nationwide and it sure looks like the independent guys who get allied have it pretty good, but here I am getting the business anyway. Grass is always greener, it is what you make of it, etc. Etc.

It depends upon the area. I have heard of IA being appointed with Allstate in some metro areas of Texas while some areas will not allow an IA appointment with an Exclusive Agent (EA) in the area. Allstate has also reached out to many clusters/groups to increase the IA count.

So your mileage may vary depending upon your location, if you are interested in an appointment it doesn't hurt to ask the marketing rep.

That was super bizarre. Had someone today I was talking to about their agent, I look up their website, and they are an independent and have Allstate. It is very much a rural area, but only about 5 miles from the nearest captive. Next town over. Funny how you can be unaware of something, and as soon as your eyes are opened to it, there it is.

If you go on SIAA's website you will see that Allstate has signed up with SIAA and will be distributing Allstate's products through SIAA's 5,000+ Independent Agents.

Allstate must have realized what Nationwide realized a while ago - the independent agency channel is the way to go and that they can't rely on just their captive agency force. And we all know that insurance carriers are like Lemmings in that they follow each other so I wonder how long it will be before State Farm does the same.

I used to have Allstate health insurance in my portfolio back in the 2001-2005 era. It was a true cafeteria style plan that was best for extremely price-sensitive consumers.

You could start with nothing but a Dr. Copay if that's all you wanted. Around $20 per month. Start adding Vision, Tests, Hospitals, Maternity, etc.. and it was up to $520 per month. Just the opposite of "no-choices" ObamaScare.

Commission % was different for each of those categories off add-ons. Good concept, but it was confusing on several levels. I'm sure Allstate health insurance is much different now.
