Telemarketing with a 70% positive response

Ok, let's get the disclaimers out of the way: I'm not making anything by posting this in any way shape or form. If you choose to get Gary's dialer - go get it, I made nodda, squat. Don't even mention this post if you want to call him about it. Just say you heard about it "from somewhere."

Ok - BS out of the way.

I've been working telemarked leads now for almost 2 years - hand dialing. You can hand dial right around 40 numbers per hour and 70% go nowhere - machine, no answer, etc...So basically you're talking to around 12 people per hour (most have group) - maybe generate 2 or so leads. Out of those 12 people probably 8 have group so you're playing with 4 people per hour who could be leads.

I've always been a fan of the "just send you information" pitch because all you're looking for on the 1st call is a foot in the door. Cultivate it from there. In the past I've been emailing brochures....which no one ever reads.

However, Paul (Moonlight) posted a few days back about creating a free guide for saving money on health insurance. Well, due to using the dialer I can mess around with different pitches at will.

So I typed up a "5 Ways to Save Money" guide and "5 Myths" guide:

Free file hosting by Savefile.com

Free file hosting by Savefile.com

Then I used a:

"I'm blah blah with Maryland Health Plans. We just issued a 2-page report for 2008 on how people can save 30% or more off their health insurance premiums. We'd just like to send you the guide and we can fax it over."

Well, as you can see today, an hour of calls - 4 "bite me's (no) and 11 "yes's." (You'll see a lot marked "group" since I don't bother sending them to people with group coverage - I simply ask if they have group or not.) That's over 70% "sure - send it."

Not bad - very impressive. I think interests get peaked when you talk about a free guide to saving money.

Interesting thing - when I fax these they get spread around the office. I hit a secretary for a doctor's office today and normally just ditch the call. Secretaries won't transfer me and the owner never read the email if she says "send it."

But the fax gets around and I got a call back about 45 minutes after faxing - lady just lost coverage in January, very nice and qualifies. Calling her tonight when she gets home. The doctor doesn't offer any group plan.

This accomplished the goal of simply getting your information out in front of as many people as possible. I'd actually just say "screw it" and send 'em out to people who have group but I pay per page sent for faxing and I think it's a waste. (I'm not gonna sit there on my fax machine with three pages for 11 leads - I use an internet service.)

Now when I follow up I can make sure they got the fax and go over the five ways to save to see if it's a fit for them.

Now - let's go over an hour of calling using Gary's dialer:

report0227qh5.jpg

190 dials made in one hour. At 40 hand dials per hour I did over 3 hours of calling in one hour.

I talked to 60 people in an hour - 45 have group, 11 said yes, 4 said no. That's talking to a person per minute. My pitch is around 20 seconds so there's not much time when I'm not speaking to someone.

I'm not doing any qualification at all - you want it faxed? Yes - great, give me your fax number and here it comes.

So the question becomes - do you have a spare hour or two a day? If you generate 10 leads per hour with this method and do 10 hours a week you'll have 100 leads. Think a deal or two is in there? You bet.

The bottom line is it's very easy to just call into one number then have the server dial three numbers at a time. It's keep your attitude up and the results are fantastic.

This is not a "system." This is something that takes three hours of your time and compresses it into one. This is something you can use as a main lead generation tool or simply as supplemental marketing.

Newbies might struggle though a typical pitch but if I could teach my cat to talk he'd be able to tell people he wants to send them a free report.

Ok, now the cynics can do what they do best and I'll answer questions from the rest.

Thanks goes to Paul who turned me onto this pitch.

One of the greatest benefits of this board is an exchange of marketing ideas. Try 'em out - some will work for you and others won't.

Nothing gained nothing lost unless you're currently working a full 8 hour day and trying a new marketing technique takes away from an already successful program.

For me, the insurance is boring. Wouldn't most people rather talk toenail fungus or root canal?

The marketing is fun. You can try new stuff, get creative, test it out, etc.

It's really what "gets me up in the morning" (besides having to pee).

Marketing has always been fun for me. Trying to design something where you're only dealing with qualified and interested people sucks. I gave up on that a long time ago.

I even tried a method using Gary's dialer where I'd only get leads from people I could qualify on the 1st call. Very dauting - you get blown off so much you don't enjoy the calls. And when you don't enjoy the calls you don't make 'em - just find excuses.

For me this works well with my local focus - putting my info in front of as many people as possible. It's gonna work well on a drip marketing campaign. I have the address and will follow up with letters about 3 times a year.

The stuff works!

I had a call today from a guy referred to me by someone that's not even my client!

The guy is a PERFECT prospective client. He and this woman were talking, and she tells him, "call this guy, he's always sending me stuff..."

As most of you already know, I have a CRM dialer for lease as well... There is one thing I want to point out Just For Your Information... and I hope no one minds.

The time shown on the RESULT REPORT is not accurate... to get the actual time spent on the dialer, go to TIME SHEET report. To give you an example... I spent a total of 64.18 minutes on my dialer today, but if you look at the RESULT REPORT, it only registers as 45.10 minutes.

Another example from another time on my CRM dialer, RESULT REPORT shows 172.50 or 2.88 hours, when in fact, the actual time spent on my dialer from the TIME SHEET was 303.52 minutes or 5.06 hours! Big difference!

You can see if you are using the wrong statistics to figure your overall results, you will not be able to see the true, actual leads produced per hour.

The only reason I point this out is because if we are going to compile statistics, they should be accurate and if people are using the RESULT REPORT time, your results will not be accurate.

I hope this helps and in no way am I making an attempt to show anyone up here, I just thought it may be useful information that most of you using the CRM dialer will appreciate.

I also agree that Paul's idea definitely has a place in marketing insurance... the free report, give a' way concept has been used very successfully in many business's... sets up the second call. No reason it cannot be implemented in our industry.

John, I hope you don't mind but I took a look at your 2 free reports and would like to commend you on a job well done. They looked great and thank you for sharing them.

Well, I hope this information helps and Good Selling to all!

I'm a bit lost - ok - the results report shows 57.2 minutes. I went to the time sheet and I'm looking under "dialed in minutes" which is

29.54
21.12
Total: 50.66 which is less than 57 minutes. I guess I'm looking at the wrong reports.

On the TIME SHEET, look at the "Total for date 02-27-08" this is the total time on the dialer in an extended fraction... Ex. 54.440004272461

... right below that on the very bottom, it will say "Total" (time will be rounded off). Ex. 54.44

This 54.44 is the actual time spent on the CRM dialer.

The RESULT REPORT only registers actual connection time, contacts, answering machines, and etc. The TIME SHEET includes these times plus busy signals, bad numbers, faxs and etc.

In other words, the Total time spent on the CRM dialer. Hope this helps, if not call me anytime.

By the way... on the TIME SHEET, you can also see a comparison of the differences between "Call Minutes" and "Total Minutes" since it shows both on the TIME SHEET.

You can also opt to see just the total of minutes in a condensed report or see the full report which shows how many times you paused the dialer and did a manual call using the dialer.

You can also run these reports for just today, any day in the past, or ALL days. This comes in handy if you are tracking individual campaigns or calling territor.
