Travel Ins and Med Supp

UHC should pay first.

80% after the $250 per occurrence deductible, with a $50K lifetime max.

Also, this is not covered by Medicare. The foreign travel benefit on the Supplements is mandated by Medicare, but is completely paid for by the Supplement carrier.

Ok so even though she had full coverage with the travil policy she is not going to get that revered and have to pay the 20%?

I just need to be sure, I did advise her to purchese the travil policy instead of relying on the supp

and the problem now is I was wrong and now she is going to ask why have a travil policy

and what happens to her premiums they just keep it for coverage they did not provide?

I just want to make sure I understand

or Is the travel policy going to pay the 20%

Here is some information. Also as stated above look at the policy document from the travel medical and speak with UHC.

Is that unique to UHC? International travel medical is normally primary, Medigap is secondary.

How could it be unique to UHC,

The travel coverage paid, and they came back after and are trying to get uhc to pay

In fact this was paid a few years ago this is not even recent

ask why have a travil policy

She doesn't have to have a travel plan . . . but it is better than relying on a Medigap out of country benefit that may never pay a dime.

Personally, I would never rely on the Medigap plan for foreign travel coverage.

There usually is a time limit to get claim reimbursement . . . 6 months after the claim was incurred is customary.

If UHC is trying to squeeze money out of a travel plan on a claim from years ago they must really be hard up.

No No

Its the Travil plan which is trying to get UHC to pay

She has a med supp from UHC

UHC has not yet been involved in this

Its the Travel policy that has come back to her telling her she needs to sign something to make UHC pay as the first payer

I don't even know who these people are this is what is on the policy

That's what I told her but the problem is now she paid for the travel policy and they are coming back at least a year after I think she said a few year
They originally paid
$42,000 which Arch Insurance Solutions paid for my hospital stay and operations on my broken shoulder, knee, and wrist plus the tickets home

Now they want her to sign something to charge UHC as the first payer

I dont know if that means she will owe many or how that works

I never heard of such things

Just because a person has a supplement policy doesn't mean she has to file a claim on it. There's nothing in the rule book that says she has to.

Like I said the other day, she doesn't need to sign anything now. Not until you've had a chance to run it by UHC or a knowledgeable travel insurance agent.

Based on what you just posted, it seems that Arch is simply on a fishing expedition. I certainly wouldn't blink.

I think I am just getting to the part of her policy that is the issue

Applicability
The Coordination of Benefits ("COB") provision applies to This Plan when an Insured has health care coverage under more
than one Plan. "Plan" and "This Plan" are defined below.
If this COB provision applies, the order of benefit determination rules should be looked at first. Those rules determine whether the
benefits of This Plan are determined before or after those of another Plan. The benefits of This Plan:
(a) will not be reduced when, under the order of benefit determination rules, This Plan determines its benefits before another
Plan; but
(b) may be reduced when, under the order of benefit determination rules, another Plan determines its benefits first. This
reduction is described further in the section entitled Effect on the Benefits of This Plan.
