When They Say my Son is Insurance Agent

It's amazing how much energy is generated out in right field and over in the parking lot, when the PLAY was in left......

Quite simply, the son was being an ass, period...end of any 'real' discussion at that point.

*Notes for agent
a) Yes, the 'half-Mexican' thing was bush-league (even your attempt to STOOP to their stupidity, which was your stated goal... is bush league in itself) "Don't meet dumb as is at the fence."
(Mirroring a P is one thing....joining them in jack-assery is another)

b)Once 'control' is lost in a house where a P (or their 'kid') has shown that they don't respect that a grown ass MAN is sitting/standing there...it'd be BEST to leave b/4 one of you decides to 'do' some 'grown man' ish.
Again..."Don't meet dumb as is at the fence."

(Btw...I define that as a person talking 'stupid' AT me and definitively a m/fer coming in yelling AT me about my parking....yelling OVER his 79 y.o. stroke-recovering Mom is ASKING to be slapped the eff upside his effing head, in lieu of his REQUEST it would best to LEAVE, period)

c) Lastly, I'll say AGAIN..."Don't meet dumb as is at the fence." and TRY to 'calm' them down, 'appeal' to them somehow, 'appease' their eff'd up behavior....

EFF that you're a GROWN AS ADULT...if you're willing to be treated like ish while SMILING and back-peddling you may as well have A EFFING JOB!

One of the reasons I became 'da Boss was NOT to have some jack as speak to me any oh kinda way...not gonna happen, granted I'll LEAVE another man's 'house' but there is no way I'm quibbling around while some a whole is spitting insults and yelling at me....to my face, no sir.

(I'll give you being a 'better' man than me for even 'trying' w/ that jerk but if 'commission chasing' makes you LOSE 'who' you are..what's the point...remember all these m/fers are just 'one more' house to you at that point one of many don't lose your soul, dignity or self respect over ONE lousy house...it's just one effing appt. of the gazillion you'll run)

Best of it, pal

I would like to thank everyone who responded to this thread.

I was considering getting into Final Expense, and using leads to do so, rather than cultivating my own referrals, as I do with other lines I sell. Reading this thread helped me make my decision.

:)

Knowing the problems she was having with the Mexicans, I think it was a funny joke to use to try and defuse the situation.

A tip of the hat to sbbuhc... Many posters have drilled down on what he did wrong, some rather harshly and he has taken it well without getting defensive or snapping back. He has handled the comments with class and doesn't sound at all like the type of fellow who would have conducted himself in a home in the way he describes.. Perhpas he was the on that just having a bad day or maybe he has some type of split personality disorder? :)

Greg's post on how to handle the situation is right on target but it is really hard to keep your cool if someone comes in cursing you and calling you names.

Bob, not sure which way you decided about FE based upon this thread but I can assure you this is not a typical situation. Most of your FE folks are nice, friendly people. However, when things like this happen, it is not unique to the FE market. I have run into the same situation on occasion selling other lines. Especially Med Sup and Nursing Home. The worst are when the family member is an "agent" that just got their Primerica contract They know everything about everything insurance related..

Haha...you could've done a ride along with me one day....that would've have sealed the deal ;)

Which way is the question.....

Agreed he has handled it well.

I'm assuming he's not going to run FE leads, so I could've spared him the reading and taken him to some of the broke @$$ places I go daily

Sometimes it isn't worth the money to put up with that crap. If you have the attitude of "I don't need the money" and "life is to short for this..." go ahead and leave or say whatever it is you want to say. It's your money and if it's not worth it to you then good for you.

The OP has handled the criticism well from people on here and I think that deserves respect.

I've had an interesting experience where a family member was an agent.

Client: My son-in-law sells insurance also so I'll have to run this by him before I take your policy.
Me: Oh ok, no problem. Just out of curiosity... why did you reply to the mailing we sent you for life insurance if your son is an agent?
Client: Oh, I just want to make sure I'm getting a good deal.
Me: Oh? Isn't your son going to get you a good deal? He's an agent right?
Client: Well, we just want to make sure we're getting a competitive rate.
Me: Ok...(pause)...Do you not believe that your son-in-law will get you a good rate?
Client: Well...(pause)...we purchased a policy from him a while back but...we just want to check this time.
Me: Ok...can I be honest?...if I were your son-in-law I might be a little upset if I found out you didn't buy from me. Are you prepared for a possible confrontation like that?
Client: (looks at her husband, then turns and looks at me and leans forward in her seat with a pissed-off look on her face) well, we just don't trust that little *#$tard.
Me: So you're okay proceeding with this without his approval?
Client: Of course!
Me: Okay...sign here.

That was in June this year. Hope it stays on the books.
