Hi,

I'm new to this forum, and may be posting in the wrong place - If so, I'm sorry, and would appreciate the redirection. I am currently trying to find another health insurance company (self-employed, HSA with Assurant under PCHP- live in Georgia) They've been really good, but don't cover the hospital in my area, and have a rider that I'd love to do without - My insurance agent has really been encouraging me to get Coventry, but after much research on the internet, I can only find negative reviews - He also carries United Healthcare and Humana, and I wonder if maybe one of them would be a better option - or if Coventry is actually better than these reviews would indicate. I've been reading these posts off and on for awhile, and it seems like you guys really know what to tell people - so I was hoping for an informed opinion. Thank you so much.

I am licensed for the state of Ga. Contact me, and we can discuss this in greater detail.

The best company for you will be a company you feel comfortable working with, who includes your physicians and your medications.

If you look not-so-hard enough, you will find negative press for just about every insurance company.

Rachbach, you're on the right path. Talk to as many agents as you can. They'll have you going in 20 different directions, all recommending different plans.

Then go back to your agent and buy the Coventry.

I think with Assurant you can change networks to make sure your hospital is in network. If the biggest reason you are looking at Coventry is to make sure your hospital is in it, I believe Assurant contracts with the Coventry Healthcare network. Talk to your agent or call into the home office - making sure you have the right network for your plan should be relatively quick.

I don't know the situation, but if you CAN change networks with Assurant, you might question the reasoning behind your agent recommending you change policies... How long have you had Assurant?

Maybe he is looking at coventry to "kill two birds," to make sure you are in network, and to try and get rid of that rider you seem to be concerned about? I know that a lot of agents here in SC seem to be hot on Coventry.

Coventry (like many carriers) has multiple networks. Just because your doc "accepts" Coventry doesn't mean they are participating in the particular network tied to the Coventry individual major med plan you will buy.

You can run into the same issue with KP, Aetna, Golden Rule, Humana.

Personally, I would never buy or recommend anyone buy Coventry.

Unless you are a masochist.

Assurant contracts to use the SouthCare network, which Coventry owns. It is NOT the same as the Coventry HMO/POS network.
