A CFP Designation Forum?? Really?

We really don't give a lot of respect for most designations, especially the CFP... but unless the CFP board is a new sponsor, why not just have it be about all designations and certifications?

I couldnt agree more. To be blunt that is a sh*#ty name for that forum. I will not participate in that section with it named that... EVER.

There are many really great designations out there that cover all the various specialties within the insurance industry.

CFP is not even an insurance oriented designation. But more importantly, it is not the most common designation out there either. Especially in the insurance industry.

CFPs also have a long history in this industry of being very biased AGAINST insurance agents and insurance products.

I have a lot of comments and personal experience with Brian's new thread about financial wellness programs (I have a couple of clients who have them and I actively market them to my 401k clients). But no way in hell am I participating in a section that is clearly bias towards a single designation over others.

Just making it about a single designation also implies that it is better than others. The ChFC requires more course hours than the CFP... plus it covers more insurance related material.

Also (Brian) your post would suggest that only a CFP is a financial planner. Perhaps that was more the article. But that is not true legally or otherwise.

I have never been more disappointed in this forum than today. The naming of the new section is totally out of touch with the agent community that this forum is meant to serve.

Sure, we can send those posters there.

----------

Of course, for this sub-forum, most of the existing threads that were transferred were generally ANTI-CFP threads, especially mine regarding the CFP Board.

I'd rather see a LUTCF, CPCU, CLU/ChFC or other certifications discussed over just "one". There are lots of quality courses and curriculum out there, but I don't want to perpetuate the noncompetitive notion that the CFP is the "only one".

Oh, and I just noticed that SOMEONE renamed my thread.

It used to be titled "CFP Board is Out of Control!" and now it just says "CFP Board".

Anybody care to explain what was wrong with my original title? You can see the original title in many of the replies in the thread.

Or are we trying to attract a new sponsor? One would think that with the connections with the Life Happens association, that we could get The American College to be a forum sponsor, rather than the "crooked" CFP Board. (Yes, I used a 'Trump-ism' there.)

If true that makes things even worse. I dont think they are crooked, but they are certainly not an "insurance friendly" organization. I know of many planners/agents who dropped their CFP because of this.

Another thing about that.... if true that means Rick was right.... god help me for saying that.

One of the great things about this Forum has been the ability to be open and honest about this industry and not filtered by some corporation with deep pockets.

I can't think of any association that would be FOR the new DOL ruling as the CFP BOS would be.

And yes, I agree with Scagnt83... I won't participate in that forum if it is labeled as it is now. Make it generic, and I'll post there.

And based on the majority of the posts about designations, if Scagnt83 and I don't participate there, you won't have much of any participation at all.

Just a fact.

I would dare to say that trying to appease the CFP BOS to be an advertiser (or similar organizations)... is like asking Suze Orman or Dave Ramsay to sponsor the life insurance forum and to appease them by saying that "buy term and invest the difference" is always the solution.

They just don't mix here, if you want quality posters contributing good content.

I dont really have an issue if the CFP board advertises on the forum. They might not be totally insurance friendly, but they do have plenty of members who sell insurance. And who knows, maybe they want to be more insurance friendly. I think they are coming around to LTCI more than they used to be.

What I have issue with is censorship of our honest opinions because of an advertiser. And the promotion of one particular designation being superior to others.

Very well spoken and I could not agree more. I learned at TopGunProducers that CFP stans for Can't ??????? Produce. It is a mistake for this forum to give CFP special recognition.
