Agents with Accents

I got a call from an old friend today that was recently licensed, has been at AIL for about a month, and is about to run out of money.

He is coming into my office next week just to get some unbiased advice. The biggest challenge that I see for him is his thick Indian accent, which isn't very helpful in Arkansas. I am thinking that maybe he could find a niche product to market to small hotel owners.

Any agents with with foreign accents have any experience to share?

See the thread Never Pay for Leads Again in the Final Expense forum. The last two pages have some posts that address this.

Because many hotels are owned by those of Indian decent?

Back in my "Adult Day Care" days I had an agent that has a Mexican accent. He struggled in making appointments from cold calls, especially if to a non spanish speaker. However he killed it in the spanish speaking market. When he cold knocked orphans he did great. Helps that he is a good looking guy. He left the business and is making much more money in music. But the point is he did not let it derail him he just Improvised, Adapted, Overcame. Had a buddy from the South that had the same problem. On the phone you could not understand half of what he was saying. In person the guy killed it.

I have the opposite problem. In person it takes a minute or two for people to readjust their first impressions. On the phone I do much better. My voice is much better looking.

This is different than Indian, but I have a friend from the former Yugoslavia who has done very well as a financial advisor. He had a discernible accent about 20 years ago when he started but it wasn't difficult to understand him. I think he has some family members working with him now too.

If his clients saw the movie Hostel, they're probably afraid to piss him off.
