Ameritas Residual

According to my reading of the residual riders offered by Ameritas, they require at least an 80 percent loss of time to qualify for residual based on filing on a loss of time basis (versus inability to perform some but not all duties). This obviously makes no sense, leading me to believe this is a mistake, but order a proposal for disability insurance and there it is. The most recent (May 2025) promotional literature makes no mention of the 80 percent loss of time requirement, but the proposals and specimen contracts clearly state it. Has anyone been down this road with Ameritas and gained any clarification on this point.

Going off of memory, that is not the entire definition.

20% or less, loss of hours. OR 15% loss of income.

If someone cant work 80% of their prior duties, they are likely still considered fully disabled.

Also, keep in mind they have 2 versions of the Residual Benefit. Basic and Enhanced.

Read the rider (either one) and you will see one of the stipulations is that if a claimant is filing based on loss of time, versus being unable to perform some but not all of their duties, an 80% loss of time is required. I know it sounds crazy, but that is what it says. This basically means they are cut out of benefits on a residual claim based on loss of time. Yes a minimum loss of income is also required. Both requirements must be met.
