Anyone Have Experience with National Income Life and Geico?

I'm a newbie to the forum who is exploring new career options after being laid off after 15.5 years with the same company as an Admin Asst. I've also been an Avon rep for 7 years, having spent the last year working the recruiting/prospecting end of the business in addition to retailing, and doing quite well with it to the point where I'd like to build it to fulltime. However, a lady's has bills to pay and I like to eat.

That said, I've been looking at being an insurance (leaning toward health) and/or real estate agent and have already done quite a bit of reading. I ventured into insurance sales years ago and came THIS close to getting licensed (Series 7), but after a lot of cold calling numbers out of the phone book and realizing that the money could take weeks or months to come in, I decided that either the timing nor that particular career choice was good back then. Fortunately I kept the day job while I was getting my feet wet. (The company was MetLife)

Even now, though I'm reconsidering insurance, the only company that has my interest is Geico and that's because it's inbound sales, which eliminates the need for generating my own leads. Not sure how well I could tolerate a call center environment, though.

National Income Life wants to interview me, but after the revelation that they are a subsidiary of American Income Life thanks to some threads here that don't paint them in a very positive light, I'm thinking I should pass.

Whether it's real estate or insurance, I may have to work part-time at least, because while I have some severance, it will only cover me for 3 more months, maybe 4.

If anyone has experience working at Geico or with NILICO, I'd appreciate hearing about your experiences with them.:)

Well, after doing a search on here and finding a thread that referred me to another site where I can get some feedback on Geico, I think I may scratch it off my list of possible career choices.

NILICO was the first company I ever worked for. Had I known then what I know now I would have never done it but I made some money and learned a ton from an awesome (jackass) sales manager. It was the perfect first job and it was a great learning experience, but the commissions are low and you can get better leads on your own.

Thank you for sharing. I've decided to pass on NILICO as well.

I love to recruit NILICO agents because the commission is so low. Its seems every new person in the insurance industry get burned once by an agency. At least you will have a good learning curve.
