[FONT=&quot]Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) announces the launch of a new child-only health insurance policy: Blue Pathway[/FONT][FONT=&quot]SM[/FONT][FONT=&quot]. This new product will provide coverage for children age 1 through 18 when the child is the primary insured. Blue Pathway is designed to allow members to experience the many benefits of our health insurance products, such as comprehensive provider networks and outstanding customer service. This product also complies with the requirements of the Affordable Care Act. [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Beginning on July 15, individuals interested in Blue Pathway can find complete information on our website at bcbstx.com/bluepathway, or they may also call Customer Service at 800-531-4456. The enrollment period will run July 15 through Sept. 15. The first effective date for this policy will be Aug. 1.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]In addition, BCBSTX is committed to reducing administrative costs for this product. For this reason, Blue Pathway will be available primarily on a direct sale basis and applications will only be available from our website at bcbstx.com/bluepathway. Brokers may assist clients in applying for Blue Pathway as one of the health insurance options available to individual customers. However, BCBSTX does not provide commissions on the sale of Blue Pathway policies.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Blue Pathway provides a good balance between price and value when compared to other programs available in the market. Eligible applicants are not required to qualify medically for coverage. However, an applicant's medical history is considered when determining the premium rate and applicants with increased risk will receive a rate proportionate to the risk. For this reason, applicants should also consider options that they may qualify for through other state and federal programs, which may be at a lower cost.[/FONT]

Open enrollment for Blue PathwaySM and BlueChoice PathwaySM child-only policies will begin July 15th and run through August 15th

Blue Pathway and BlueChoice Pathway - our health insurance plans for children who do not have other major medical coverage available to them for purchase.

• Plans for children ages 1 through 18
• Two contracting provider network options: our broad PPO network or our BlueChoiceSM network
• Outpatient
  
  prescription drug benefits, diagnostic testing, emergency care and physical, occupational and speech therapist therapy services
• Benefits for preventive care services

Blue Pathway and BlueChoice Pathway are "guaranteed issue" products. Children who are eligible for these plans will be approved for coverage regardless of their health status. Remember, applicants must still meet any non-health related eligibility criteria.

It says the rate can be increased for medical risk. I'm not sure about TX, but in AZ they can file a new product and have a different max rate-up than they have on their other products in their portfolio. I wonder how high they can rate-up on this product, and I wonder if they positioned it specifically to get the "child-only" market, but with higher rate-ups than would have been possible under another product.
