Interesting.

In certain counties in Georgia, Blue Cross Smart Value Plus customers are getting letters saying they have received a request to cancel coverage and 01/01/11 they will no longer have coverage.

If the customer calls customer service they put them through to a salesman and they re enroll the customer for a 01/01/2011 effective date.

The original writing agent is gone! got to love that!

Medicare Advantage Agent friendly??

A good thing for agents???

For some idiotic reason, BCBS had two plans in the same county (in certain counties). One was $40 the other was $34.50. The same benefits, just a different plan #. I have a mother and daughter client who live in the same house. One was enrolled in the $34.50 plan, the other the $40 plan. Go figure.

The one in the $40 plan received the letter stating BCBS wasn't continuing the plan. The client called me. I called BCBS and sent an email to Tony Makkar who then got it in the right hands and it was corrected.

As for the issue with them transferring them to an in-house enroller, don't think that's exclusive to BCBS. I had it happen with SecureHorizons two years ago. It took me until July of that year to get it straightened out and get paid on it.

Every client that calls customer service to tell them they did not make this request will get transferred and you will lose them!

If you say so. My experience has been different. I'm not saying it doesn't happen. I'm just saying I will fight for it if it does as I have done in the past.

I pretty much use MA plans for under age 65, I am not a big fan.

I don't think this current issue is anybodies normal experience, I just wanted people to be aware.

I did have a long conversation with an agent that writes quite a bit of MA business and she said she had over 30 clients that she has not received commissions on for many months, bcbs paid her back commissions on most of them but not all.

When asked how they got dropped from her book, they had no clue!

I use MA for those under 65 and for those over 65 who can't afford a Med Supp. My first choice is ALWAYS a Med Supp, but I'd rather walk away with something for my efforts. If the MA is a fit for the client, I will sell it.

The problem you mention will happen with virtually every carrier. The client will call with an enrollment problem/question and the customer service reps will transfer them to an in-house agent to enroll them. But if you can show documentation where you were the person who enrolled them, then you can likely get paid. It's a pain in the arse to deal with, but it's just something you may have to do from time to time. This year (2010) was pretty smooth for me as far as problems with MA plans go. The jury is out for 2011. Luckily, many of my existing clients aren't changing plans so I'll only have to worry about the renewals and the new enrollments I get for this year.

believe or not we have over 100 MA still not paid on from this entire year. We just updated the xls file today and I just about blew my top. Some of these date back to 12/1/2009.
