Can an Adjuster Also Be an Agent?

I've been an independent adjuster for years. Is it possible for me to also get my agent license? Can I do both?

Thanks in advance.

PS
I'm in FL

Should be no issues to get licensed. I'm assuming P&C? Just a matter of finding a shop to be a producer for. A shop that would allow you to freelance as adjuster on the side, or you to be a producer on the side. May be difficult to find an agency willing to put you on part time. Most agency's want consistent production and commitment.

Maybe some conflict of interest issues to work thru too? Past or future...

No doubt you have the product knowledge to succeed in selling coverage!

Good Luck.

Call the DOI.

I seem to recall a few states forbid it. Once you are licensed, then you can deal with any potential conflicts of interest.

I agree with the above posts.

Even if you were an adjuster for a company you didn't represent as an insurance agent, there would still be a conflict of interest.

Consumer complaints are like fish catching stories... they grow with repetition.

Someone could say "you low-balled my claim, just so you could switch me over to your company".

10 years ago I got my adjusters license. At that time I was a very depressed captive. My plan was to be a storm chaser and specialize in cat losses, plus work the agency. Never did go there, didn't want to leave the family for the length of time needed. 5 years later, went indy agent rather than indy adjuster. Happy with that! :)

I think being a storm chaser in the insurance industry wouldn't be all that much fun. Dealing with so many families whose lives have been uprooted... that would get old real fast, I would think.

But being a storm chaser working for the weather channel.... now that would be exciting! sign me up!
