Career Agent or Independent?

I am a career agent with MM now. I have my own detached office. I did all the business ( including ordering medical exam) by myself. I only submitted the application through GA.

I am thinking about changing to independent contract with them. ( because I possibly can get higher commission and more freedom ( I will be able to sell other carriers by contracting with other broker dealer. Ash brokerage, the commission payment is not very competitive) )

Any advice?

1, should I change the contract to independent kind?

If the Mass GA is of no use to you and you find no value in your Mass career contract then yes.

If your doing it soley because you think you'll make more money, be careful. Lots of people chase gold and never find it.

Thanks for the advice.

Currently, the GA is not very helpful. Basically, I only submit the application through them.

The main reason for me to hesitate to change the contract from Career Agent to Independent Agent is the series 6 registration in the future.

Any advice on this issue? selling variable product, mutual funds under independent contract

another question: if I can submit John Hancock application ( annual premium $ 200,000 ), can I directly contact this company to get the good commission payment ( as much as GA can get)?
I mean if my production is enough, can I work as a GA myself?

Many thanks

The main attraction of a Career contract is benefits (health insurance, retirement, disability) etc. You have to weigh it all out.

$200,000 in premium alone is way less than what your average GA is likely producing for that company. If your going to make it a big focus on comp (and I'm not saying that's right or wrong, as it's certainly one way people approach things) then you're probably better off shopping GA's. They don't really appreciate this, so you should be a little careful in your approach.

Also, what state are you in?

The medical insurance benefit is not very important to me, because I can get coverage from my wife's company.

I live in New York.
