Colonial Life, Making Benefits Count Program

Hello All!
I have many years of experience in Health Insurance Claims but no actual sales experience. I have thought about exploring selling for some time now.
I would like to start with inside phone sales just to get my feet wet and then hopefully become an independent broker. I have been offered a position with Colonial Life, setting appointments. However, it is a commission only position. I have no problems with that because I do have the capability to go without much pay for a while due to my spouse's income. They seem to indicate that as long as I stay on the phones setting appointments for the agent I will definitely make 50-60k the first year.
I feel like it may be a good opportunity to just try it and get a feel for all that agents do and go through. It sounds as if I don't have a lot to loose(other than my time) because I am not leaving a current job.
Can anyone provide any advice or thoughts regarding Colonial Life? I have heard a lot of negative about charge backs and I asked about those. The response I received was that very rarely happens. What happens if I leave in six months and I have been paid annual commissions, could I end up owing money?

Thanks for any insight!

You can always start out by searching google for Colonial Life RIPOFF...........

You will hear good and bad things about Colonial, as you will with just about every other carrier. You will need to make a judgement call about which to believe.

Charge backs are charge backs, what could be so negative about them? Your contact at colonial should be able to provide you with an expected number. Ask for a copy of the contracting documents so that you can see the charge back and payment policy.

As for the 50-60k earnings, it is possible, but probably not probable. No offense, but you are not a sales person, so there will be a learning curve. However, on the other hand your lack of experience could be a plus. I have seen ( a very few) inexperienced callers be very successful because they did not have fear of calling/rejection.

From what you have described, this does not appear to be a big risk for you. Good luck.

It sounds like an established Colonial agent has offered to split commissions with you. Colonial does not have a system-wide cold calling role. You might be better served asking around about the agent rather than Colonial Life, as your earnings will be tied to how well he/she does in closing the appointments you set.
