An exhausting AEP...I run my own shop (Medicare and life), no assistance from anybody. At what point do I consider a part time Customer Service Agent? i.e., What is the book of business size where you may have hired a CSR? Is there a "CSR" agency? What's the typical cost for a part time CSR?

I prefer a local CSR, but I can't even get my own kids to skip school to come to the office to take calls. What's this world coming to?!

Do you want a good one or do you want to save money?

Getting someone who can "replace you" on the service side is going to be 50-60k.

In my experience though, it's 100% worth it.

My book is close to 1k, I do it all myself too and yes it's exhausting. Having said that, I trained someone last year from a to z and they still managed to make more work for me to sort out the messes, not worth it.

That's how I operate also. I know if I do it then it gets done and hopefully gets done right. Some days when you are in the middle of 7 or 8 appts and phone doesn't stop ringing I do wish I had someone just to schedule appts at least. I also like 100% of all commissions go in my account and stay in my account.

I have seen situations where multiple agents share a CSR, some have been in an office setting, some have been virtual. There will always be some type of friction between the agents because of perceived slights, but they have all seemed to iron that out after a year or two. The groups that seem to have it running the smoothest were where the agents swallowed their pride/frustrations and just paid the1/3rd for the person and did not complain about whether they were getting short-changed on the work.
