Or can you get by with internet faxing for a home office? Is there any reason to have a fax machine?
Thanks

You need either a scanner or a fax. I would get one or the other. I like the internet faxing like Nextiva because I can access things everywhere and I don't have to use paper and everything. But if you have hardcopy things like apps to fax or certificates or contracts and things, you need a scanner for Nextiva to send things off. If you are going to get a scanner, then do a fax if that is your fancy since most faxes are a part of scanners. You either pay for a phone line for the fax or the subscription for faxing on Nextiva and others, so the prices are about the same.

I have used internet fax for incoming for years. I have a multifuntion machine (Costco) that can fax or scan/fax as I need. They are cheap. No need to chose, have both. It is also a printer and copier. Two year warranty, it breaks after that I throw it away and buy a new one.

When you first start out, be careful you do not get caught up in getting aggressively ready. Keep it simple. Only apps count.

I scan everything and e-fax using MyFax (there are others). This is better than regular faxing for a couple of reasons:

1. Better for paperless archiving.
2. Have you ever been doing a 20 page fax and the line connection craps out on page 18? Have to start all over.

Yup.

This is why I got a scanner when my multi-function fax-scan-voice mail - coffee maker crapped out.

I also use MaxEmail and have for years.

You could get by without a fax machine as long as you have a scanner. I prefer the scanner/fax/copier option because some times it's just a whole lot easier to stick the papers in the machine and dial the number. Using a scanner you end up with an extra step and a lot of times you're sending stuff that doesn't necessarily need to be archived.

Receiving your faxes via an e-fax service is nice though since it gets delivered to email and you don't have to print it out unless you want a hard copy. But a lot of fax machines now give you the option of digital receiving which just sends it to your PC instead of printing it. However your computer would have to be on, and as far as I know you would have to be in the office to get the fax because I don't think it will email it to you (although I could be wrong on that).

I like receiving my faxes in my email, that way you can go back and get it if you lose it.

I use rapidfax, $8 a month, love it

Cheapest e-fax ive seen, highly reliable, is via vitelity.

They do 3$ a month for the number and .03 cents a minute for use time only. I don't think I've ever hit 4$ in a month ever.

Also have a coupon for ringcentral, first month free. They're quite good, used them for my whole phone system for quite some time before I started self managing. They're 7.99 a month after the free trial.

Again, full disclosure, I get commissions from both those companies. I get commissions from a bunch of others also, but those are the only 2 I have experience with.
