Has Anyone Used Door Hangers Before? Do They Work?

Tons of work. I had kids put out almost 2500 for me and only had 10 calls, 3 were to yell at me for littering, 2 sales for 2 full weekends full of work.

guess it depends...

did it end up being worth it or not???

how much did it cost to hang the door hangers
(materials, delivery etc)

vs

how much you made in sales

if one made 2 sales and it = $2000 (???)
and even it cost them $1000 = would still be a thousand ahead in the end...

regarding door hangers
(i am new to selling insurance but not to business and ADVERTISING)...

if you have the time and what little bit of money it takes to get them printed...

then what do you (or anyone) have to lose...
if you come up w/ the RIGHT ADVERTISING then someone might pick it up and rush to the phone to call (or throw it away, or call you to complain about litter etc)...

ITS A GAME OF CHANCES...
the better you are at coming up w/ CLEVER (intelligent/creative/effective) ADVERTISING

the BETTER YOUR CHANCES...

around where i am
found a person who does this as a business (distributing flyers) and the expense of the printing and distribution is NOMINAL compared to the POTENTIAL RETURN... the way i see it is - WHAT DO I HAVE TO LOSE... just a few dollars and my time

on the flip side
it is said that realistically one can expect a VERY SMALL RETURN on paper advertising... such as flyers either dropped at the door or sent in the mail... years ago one could expect about 3-4% return on any flyers distributed.

another point about flyers in general
(not to ramble on)... sometimes people will file stuff away for months before they do anything about it... so it might be difficult sometimes to measure the ultimate success/failure of an advertising distribution... and it never hurts to get ones name out there in AS MANY WAYS AS IS AFFORDABLE!!! (name brand recognition etc)
(imo atleast fwiw)

If I can't get a consistent 5:1 ROI I won't do it.

Door hangers work for pizza, Chinese food and (apparently) home repair and lawn services given the number of flyers that show up on my mailbox.

I would not expect it to work for insurance.

"Hey look Marge. A flyer for life insurance. I have been thinking about getting some since our neighbor was shot to death in his driveway."

If 4 solid days of work is worth 1000.00 to you, then by all means post door hangers. I did it for Med. supps and it was definitely a waste of time.

By the way, we're not talking about sitting at you desk for 8 hours a day, we are talking about walking many miles doing it.

Door hangers are a waste of time.

I have not done door hangers, but I have done flyers a couple of times. My college daughter needed some extra money, so I paid her to drop off flyers at business near her school. I did get one sale, but it only lasted a short while. But it did cover the cost of my daughter and the flyers. So it was not all that bad, she got what she needed along with a little experience.

Being a newer agent I will do just about anything to see some extra success.

My question would be if anyone has done it for P&C and not life insurance. It could be easier to get a few deals but the commission is much less.

Well it looks like if your a new agent, this is not the best way to go. But I think it might pay out in the long run, if you did pacific neighborhoods twice a year. Eventually brand recognition. I would eventually like to start to do mailings or door hangers and cold call the people I send them too. That way have some rapport built up. All others would be brand recognition, that are on the do not call list.

I could see how it might work for home owners insurance, you would want to place them where you knew you had the best rates. Your goal would be to break even or make a little money, it's all about the renewals.
