The area he lives only have very few options. But he wants this plan because of the zero-premium. This is a turning 65 client of mine that I have with under 65 Blue Cross and I originally spoke to him about the med sup but because of the zero-premium mailer, he got he wants to go that route. But they don't get RX and he can't get a Part D plan with this. What are the suggestions for Prescriptions?

If I'm understanding you are trying to do ma ppo without drugs and purchase pdp separate?

if so you can't do that

My guess is a rural area And not a Lot of good Mapa made choices

No, I understand I can't do that, my question is what does he do since he can't get a Part D for RX

He hast to either get a Medicare advantage that includes drugs my guess is a lot more expensive

Get a standalone PDP with either a supplement or just original Medicare

Or face a penalty in the future

Caveat, not an agent.

I would suggest considering telling him you will not write that policy because of the potential PDP premium penalties and possible inability to afford medications in the future when he does need them if he can't get back to original medicare and a pdp not rendered unaffordable by hefty late enrollment penalties.

To answer your question, cash pricing; pharmacy discount lists-Walmart and Kroger used to have them-don't know current availability; discount cards such as goodrx; and patient assistance programs if his income is low enough.

or if he wants to gamble a bit on continued good health for awhile, you could take a look at a Lasso MSA which he could have a pdp with.

(if you do that, do some reading on the Lasso site, to be sure you understand areas where MSA is more restrictive than a regular MA plan, before you present the option.)

why would you assume they have Lasso? I've never seen it anywhere I work and the OP said they have very few options.

Just a guess. I did some reading and developed a guess as to where I think op is. I used q1medicare to look at MA plan options in his state. There is a county not too far from the city in which I think he is located that has only 7 MA options.

Humana choice $0 is one. Lasso is another. There are 2 plans with a carrier I have never heard of-premiums of $48 and $68. 3 other Humana plans with premiums of $75-$166.

That matches up pretty well with a "few plans". In the states where they are available, Lasso is available in the whole state. So even if I am wrong about the county, if I am right about the state, Lasso is an option. (As you note FL is not a Lasso state, but I don't think op is in FL.)

If I am wrong about the state, then he may, or may not, have access to Lasso. There are 25 other possibilities. At least op now knows to consider that as a possibility for an MA plan that also allows the purchase of a PDP. That directly relates to op's original question.
