Indy NC Health W/ Maternity

The $2500 deductible option on the State Plan offers Maternity benefits. If she is already expecting, she can get on the State Plan if they haven't had anything more than the std 63 day break in coverage and be covered for the pregnancy from the effective date of the policy. If she hasn't had coverage, she can still get on the State Plan and be covered in time for the delivery, assuming she isn't too far along.

If she hasn't had coverage for 6 months, it gets even better. The Federal option covers Maternity at all ded levels, not just the $2500, and is considerably cheaper. You couldn't buy a policy with the same benefits without maternity for the same $$. Pregnancy qualifies you for this plan as it is an uninsurable condition with all of the private carriers.

It's cheaper to go this route than to buy the BC plan and add maternity.

She is not expecting. Long story; she took a new job literally one month ago and it turned out that the company was involved in some illegal/Madoff style nonsense, and the company is now folding/being investigated by the SEC and no company = no COBRA. So, the benes end 3/31 so she is scrambling to get her ducks in a row. She is not sure how long she will need this coverage, so she wants to have mat coverage in case they have a second child down the road. her husband has a plan through some HMO in PA, and they just moved to NC, so that does no good. T

Thanks for the help all!
