I do plenty of marketing activities, some work and some don't. I feel you always need to try something new and see if it works. Here is my dilemma - I have a pretty nice new marketing niche I have been working on so far this 2012 year. I think it would have been a great marketing tool and would have gotten something out of it, however nothing yet. I wanted to see your thoughts.

This is for P & C

I have access to info for when someone buys a new home in my city. I put together a packet with my companies info, business card a welcome letter and a sheet that has a few testimonials from current clients about my services and that also includes a few bullet points on ways I run my agency for my clients (breaks down some points on my services). I drive to their new home and knock on the door, if they answer I introduce myself and hand them the packet. If they are not home I leave the packet on the doorstep.

I just thought 1) they should be new to the area so having a local agent is a plus 2) my testimonial sheet with my client services pointed out is pretty nice I feel 3) I take time to come out and congratulate them on their new home and introduce myself.

I thought I would have got a few calls from this. I don't want to stop doing this because I think it should work, but it does take up a good amount of time.

What are your thoughts on this to improve or discontinue this? Thanks for your feedback

From a captive agent with a unique marketing idea

Just a thought...we have access to the same data and decided to use it for a mailing program that promotes some of our clients instead of selling our agency. I approached some of my current commercial clients and got them to offer "freemiums" to new movers. The idea is to get those new movers into their business before their competitors and win them as repeat customers. Does the phone ring off the hook with new clients?...no....but it does ring. Our letter has absolutely zero sales stuff about the agency...it's more of an intro to the other businesses.

So far, we've gotten many referrals from our existing clients out of reciprocity for our activities on their behalf. (added benefit)

FYI: to give you an idea... the package includes free pizza, pet grooming, veterinary visit, car inspection, hair cut, free kids meal, free personal trainer visit, etc. several hundred $$ in free stuff.

I'd be glad to send you the letter, coupons, etc. so you can see it firsthand if you like. PM me your mailing address and I'll send one over to you.

Sounds like a good marketing plan. Only thing you didn't mention was the follow-up. Most likely these people see this as a nice packet and then stuff it with the rest of their insurance stuff. I would follow-up with a phone call seeing if they recieved the packet and if they are interested in a quote.

ho are you captive w?

The hard part is getting phone numbers. Not sure how to go about doing that as I only have their mailing address. I am captive with Sentry.

The primary reason that it is not working is that it is too late. When a person buys a new home they have to have the insurance provider in place before closing. You need to catch them before they close. Good idea, not such good timing.

LOL!!

This has been out for years, companies even do it, ever heard of welcome wagon?

So explain to me, if they JUST bought a house and already closed, in the middle of moving, new schools, setting up utilities etc, why would they want to deal with something, insurance, that has already been taken care of?

its a good idea, FOR SOME BUSINESSES, but not insurance...

Why are you waiting for after the sale? We call on the mortgage broker and realtors before they close on the house. Theoretically speaking, you're trying to steal the customer that I just sold.
