Mentor needed!

I do P&C, Life and Health as well. My primary focus is life insurance but sells have been down since transitioning from a captive agent to an Independent agent.

I bring discipline and eagerness to learn and grow.. I'm open to constructive feedback and I'm self motivated. I bring a combination of potential, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn that is coupled with 8 years of experience in the insurance industry and 24 years in the healthcare industry.

That's what they all say. :skeptical:

When I asked what your focus was, I didn't mean product or line of insurance.

What problems do you help people solve?
What are you known for?
Why do people refer you? (Do you get referrals?)
Why do you do what you do? What difference do you want to make in people's lives because they met you?

If I could offer some advice it would be to focus in one area. Virtually every successful agent out there focuses on one area. Doing P&C, Life and health is going to spread you thin. Pick one of those markets and jump in. After becoming successful in that market, if you want to expand, then do so. The prospect that is looking for P&C, isn't likely looking for life or health. The prospect looking for life insurance, isn't likely looking for the other two.

What you are likely experiencing (basing this on the comment of sales being down) is a lack of prospects. The lifeblood of the insurance business, regardless of product, is having people to see who can benefit from the problem you are solving. It doesn't matter which market it is. What are you doing to gain prospects? Unfortunately, the "lead" business in the insurance industry is a waste land. If you are buying leads, just know that the lead has likely been sold to several other agents. You're better off developing relationships with centers of influence who can refer people to you. With that said, there are very few COI who are going to refer you for life insurance unless they are an estate planning attorney. The general public isn't having conversations with their friends about life insurance so they aren't likely to refer you a ton of business in that market. You'll have better success from Joe Public (or current clients) getting referrals for P&C and/or health insurance. Of course, those don't pay as well up front as life insurance does. but they do provide for a long-term revenue stream which life insurance doesn't do.

Best of luck.
