Need AHIP Cert for Renewals

I am semi-retired but still keep my hand in the business. Renewals and the expectations of them are part of retiring and at a future date selling any book of business. I can (somewhat) understand annual certification to write new business but what is the reasoning behind renewal business? Is it just one more way that CMS sticks their head where the sun don't shine? I guess it is like the idiotic money laundering certification that comes down from the Feds or maybe I am missing a valid reason for it?

I think the politicians need some continuing education requirements for them to continue to receive their rather handsome pay package.

In theory you should be taking care of your clients and able to discuss the changes to their plan and other plans available which you can't do without a certification. I don't like AHIP, but it has it's merits.

He cant?... yes he can cat daddy

Of course he can, the same way he can take a baseball bat and beat the hell out of a moron from Texas, but he's not supposed to. Agents are not supposed to market plans, or engage in any act of "selling" without being certified before they do, this would include discussing the ANOC and any other plans available.

If all I needed was AHIP for renewal commissions I'd be fine. But in order to get the $25 for each of the 20 PDP plans I might have on the books with Coventry, I not only need AHIP, but I also need their certification.

Is it worth 20 minutes to earn $250? Sure, but I have no plan on writing any PDP plans now or in the future.

In order to receive the $80 a year renewal commission on my old Aetna MA plans, I have to certify for a company that is still under sanction.

Stupid rules.

Aetna only pays $80 renewals on MA plans? Other carriers pay $200! No wonder Aetna was sanctioned. They failed to pay you and the customers lol. 

These are policies written 2 or more years ago when the first year commission was $625.

It wasn't until Humama threw us under the bus that CMS reduced first year commissions to 2X renewal. It had the effect of raising renewals at the expense of first year.

20 minutes?

The AHIP is several hundred questions and I don't care how slick we may be or well versed, it takes time to read the questions. Then you must make sure of your answers.

Twenty minutes....maybe I took the wrong AHIP test?

I did feel oh so good to find out that the Federal Government WILL ALLOW me to hand out a business card at some presentations.

If only we held our elected officials to such high standards as those of the CMS guidelines. Instead we get people like E. Spitzer that created a lot of trouble for insurance people but had the moral standards of a (fill in the blank).
