Let's do this.

Putting my tips, tricks and treats in this thread so don't hijack it!

1. Make sure you are using Kroger (whatever its called in your area) in any comparison. They have obviously negotiated some damn good prices on drugs and those savings will get passed along to your clients. First one out of the box: Advair. Annual cost of $1K on Humana Walmart at Walmart. Annual Cost of $667 at Kroger on the same damn Humana Walmart plan.

2. Lunesta generic (Eszopiclone) is being added to the list of GoodRX drugs

Pharmacy comments are for CVS, Costco, Kroger, Publix, Walgreens & Walmart only. Did not look at regional pharmacy's other than Publix.

Only considered PREFERRED pharmacy's. (No standard ones)


AARP/UHC Walgreens plan has ONLY Walgreens as preferred. The other plans include Kroger, Publix, Walgreens, Walmart. AARP lovers that opt for the lowest premium only better love Walgreens.

Aetna (includes SilverScript) preferred are CVS, Publix, Kroger, Costco, Walmart

Anthem preferred are CVS, Costco, Kroger, Publix, Walmart

Cigna - Costco, Kroger, Walgreens, Walmart

ClearSpring - CVS, Kroger, Walmart

Elixir - CVS, Costco, Kroger, Publix, Walmart

Express Scripts - GONE, swallowed by Cigna

Humana - Costco, Kroger, Publix, Walmart

Omaha - CVS, Kroger, Walmart

Wellcare - CVS, Costco, Kroger, Publix, Walgreens

In addition to Jenny's comments about Kroger, it looks like more carriers love Walmart than in the past.

If you aren't using Walgreens, Walmart, CVS, Kroger and whatever their favorite pharmacy is, stop running lists. There's no point.

Drugs are all over the place, based on pharmacy.

Will doctors write a 12 month prescription? I have to get a new doctor, but the best my old one would ever do is 4 90 day refills on one prescription form. He would not write for one 12 month supply.

Silver Script hates Ezetimibe (Zetia).

Albuterol inhalers (assumes rescue, 1-2 times a year fill) is GoodRX

Colchicine (its a PRN RX for Gout flare) Most of them have it applying to deductible, so if its a 1-2x a year RX, better to use GoodRX

No, you understood. If its a long term drug and the doc doesn't need to see you more than once a year, they will usually do it. YMMV

Its a hassle. And the pharmacy will hate you. Not sure where you are located, but I am finding Kroger to be consistently the cheapest (or close enough that you don't care!)
