Hello Health Insurance Agents,
I wanted to warn you guys of agencies like this one, that holds agents against their will by sharing my experience. I had a nightmarish experience with this agency, tons of wasted time, that I'm frustrated enough to spend more time to warn others. I'm an agent of 10 years, work with over 25 companies in 10 states, so I'm no rookie here dealing with this type of agency, which of course I was assured in the beginning I could get a release.
I had Aetna health with one agency for 7 years, I put Coventry health with Peek to see if they are good to work with or not. I gave them 1 contract and I'm glad it was only 1, because they were not easy to deal with. I only sold a few Coventry health apps anyways, as they aren't in one of my main states for Individual Health. I wanted to put Aetna & Coventry back together this year, since there were so many commission issues with them last year for on & off exchange comp.
If I had a commission question, Peek would refer me to their other partner for Coventry in Messer. Then Messer takes emails only for commission questions. For me the average response was 2-3 weeks per question. So if something was wrong, it took months to get paid. I know Coventry/Aetna had 1 hour hold times minimum for commissions questions as well. I resolved everything in September 2015, for 1-1-15 & 2-1-15 effective dated plans. It took 7 months to get paid!!!
So when I asked for a release I was given a sideways answer. I was told I could get a release, (IF) the agency I was going to would give a reciprocal release. Well what I find out is that any decent MGA usually won't sign a reciprocal release, because they aren't going to hold agents against their will in the first damn place!!!!!!!
Peek wanted to talk to the agency I was going to, which I thought was a crazy suggestion. After all that, weeks of this back and forth bullsh#! I got in touch with Aetna direct, found a local rep down the street from me, and I didn't really need a release anyways. You can actually choose your MGA this year on your Producer World portal with Aetna. So this whole time the Peek was just trying to hang on to any dollar he could be not letting me go, or even making me think I could not leave.
Turns out they lied to me falling short of any type of decent professionalism, and tried to keep me against my will by trying this (Reciprocal Release) angle which is a trap in the fist place. I never needed a release I just had to contact the company direct and fill out a request with them.
I told the owner I felt sorry for his agents, and sorry for him that this is how he treats agents, and does business. After speaking with Aetna direct, my rep said shes had many agents with similar problems with Peek Performace/Messer not paying agents. S it's not just me when the 3rd largest insurer knows your name when agents have commissions problems=RUN!
SHAME ON THEM, AND ANY AND ALL AGENCIES THAT HOLD AGENTS AGAINST THEIR WILL, WITH NO DEBIT BALANCE, NO LEADS GIVEN, NO TRAINING PROVIDED! DON'T GET TRAPPED GUYS!
