Sentinel Life

I have emailed them several times, since I posed this question, asking basic questions and I have not had one responding email returned. Not real excited I am.....

Same result if you or a client leaves a phone message. Unless things have changed, I think they only have a few people working there. I would not be surprised if they are all related.

I came across a couple F/70 NT, M/75 NT. Both in really good health. I was speaking with the husband trying to figure out his current coverage's. He wasn't sure what company he had so I had him call the bank to find out who was drafting.

The bank mentioned Primerica and Sentinel Security Life. I called Primerica and turns out this 75 y/o male was sold a 10 yr level term that was issued in 2006. I explained the details to the husband and told him the agents name. The husband said "oh, that is what term means." He then said that the agent on that is a family friend. I asked if the family friend had a full time job also, he said yes, he is a well driller. :goofy:

Anyway, I call Sentinel Life to ask about the policy that they are drafting on. It is supposed to be on the wife. I gave all the info, SSN, DOB, etc, and the rep couldn't find anything. Then the client says, well let's just call the agent. I explained to them that if they did so it would be like another rooster in the hen house. They did proceed to call and I had the other agent on speaker. The agent says, I'll be over there later to take care of you.

I explained my situation to the client that I had done all the research on his policies, found him almost 4K cash in a mutual fund and explained in detail all of his policies. I asked him why didn't his other agent do these things for him when he did the wife's policy. He couldn't answer. He said that he would listen to the other agent and not do anything with him but hear him out. I asked him not to share any of the info that I had found and to see if the other agent did the same level of work that I did or will he just show a product and that is it?

Now my question. I'm going to go back over there today to see if the other agent has came by. I'm hoping I can still save the case. If so, the wife has a 10K Sentinel policy that she pays 49.74 month. I did research and found that Sentinel has a B++ rating with a negative outlook.

A new policy would be 53.11 with RNA. Would be in the best interest of the client to move to a higher rated company that doesn't have a negative outlook?

If it's a whole life policy, I would not replace it for a more expensive one. AM best doesn't mean anything. Plus your replacing a policy with a fraternal certificate. She is better off where she is. If you use scare tactics to replace, the next agent will use scare tactics to replace your non guaranteed fraternal.

Sentinel Life sucks on many levels. They could not find anything because they probably got jelly donut all over the index card they keep policy info on. Or the one CS old woman was in one of her typical moods.

Could I replace it? Yeah, probably. First the fact that the company could not find the policy information is a concern, What happens when she dies? Cash values? Reduced Paid Up and new on top maybe, Are they a responsible couple? Maybe GUL. Maybe they would prefer a company that has better customer servace or pays claims on death, not have to wait two weeks for a death certificate. Is the replacement correct, I have not met with them so I do not know.

Now the Primerica policy, I of course would replace it. But I would tread lightly on the family friend's good name. He probably is already starved out of PFS or will. who else did he write? I would make nice with him and offer to fix the problems he created with the rest of the family. Over a nice steak and beer dinner.

Now if I am the defending agent and you hit me with the B++ and negative outlook and recommend RNA. I am going to come back with ""yes that is true, That is one of the reasons I do not write Fraternals. In my experience this is what has happened if a company is taken over by the state and this is what happens if a Fraternal needs money. I for the life of me can not understand why that Pony guy would want to do something like that to you. Did he explain the contestable issues? Now if you are more comfortable with a higher rated company I would recommend ...""

Did I mention that Sentinel Security sucks?

The worst ever.. They got like one person manning the phones.. good luck trying to get through to them

Save yourself a bunch of time and bypass them altogether

In the companies defense: since I posed this question I have developed a one on one relationship with one of the directors of agencies and all has been very smooth with very good support. I have had as has my clients good results with the company....

Good to see an agent ask for information and then go against the almost unanimous advice he received.. :1err:.. However, it is nice to see it has worked out OK .
