Who has taken the series 6 exam for investment products/variable contracts? It is a requirement for me to pass this test to work for NEF. I'm studying it right now, and it is WAY more difficult than the group 1 life and health exam.

I have been reading through Kaplan's Series 6 exam prep manual and taking some of the Kaplan cd-rom drill and practice questions...too early to tell, but it is proving to be quite a challenge for me.

Any words of advice, encouragement out there?

Several on this forum have taken and successfully passed the series 6 and 63.

My advice is to go to audible.com, download the cd's for the series 6 test, which is an audible book, listen to it a few times, take a few practice tests, go pass the real test. It is harder than the life and health exam, since many of the concepts are pretty vague on the test.

The answer is ALWAYS the answer that best protects the consumer. If you remember this one thing, you'll probably pass the test. Just make sure you read all the answers, since 2 may be correct, but one will be more correct, because it better protects the consumer.

The Kaplan practice tests will get you through.

Thanks for the info. The audible.com series 6 audio book from Boston Financial is a few years old, and I know some changes have taken place...wonder if that makes a difference?

Kaplan also offers an audio review...anyone used that one?

I have a Series 7 and 66 and found the Dearborn study materials to be FAR superior to the others that I looked at. Passed them both on the first attempt. Study hard! Don't know much about the Series 6, but the 7/66 are both difficult...long and especially the 66, very VERY tricky. Long questions and long answers.

But the Dearborn materials are the way to go...

Good luck...!

I already had my 6/63 when I used the Dearborn home study for the Series 7. It was a lot harder than the 6 because of the options and math, but I did pass it on the 1st try.

The 63 was the hardest of the bunch because the laws are so "gray" I was surprised by my 80%.

Spend the time with the practice questions and you'll do fine. If I can pass the tests, so can you.

By the way, after keeping my securities licenses for about 10 years I came to conclusion that I hated dealing with investments and dropped everything about 3 years ago.

Securities Training Corp is the golden standard.

I passed the series 3,6,7 & 65 with no problems thanks to them.

I couldn't disagree more about STC! I looked at their materials and I found them to be woefully inadequate for my exams. In fact, compared to Dearborn, I thought the STC stuff was a complete joke. I bought their online stuff for the 7 and had I used that alone, there's no WAY I would have passed. Dearborn is miles, light years, ahead of STC, IMO. Maybe their printed stuff is better than the online stuff?

Can't really explain why/how you had such a different experience with it, though. Interesting...

Well...I passed my series 6. Man, was I sweatin' when I 'pushed the button'!

Anyhow...now on to the 63. The material is way different...lots of legalese and situational topics. Very confusing jargon.

I didn't really have a choice to shop around, I just studied what they gave me. I was with one of the big wirehouses back then, so I can't imagine that they would use sub-par material....

I also used the Dearborn books and CD's for my 6, 63 & 26 about 5 years ago. It's like the old college days, get your knuckles dirty and study! Do whatever you can to pass on the first try. Read the chapters and take the practice exams over and over. You'll get it. If you are scoring in the 90's on the practice exams you will score in the 70's on the test.
