Signing up for Part B with employer coverage

If someone is currently on employer coverage with Part A only (he turned 65 last year) and knows that he wants to end employer coverage at the end of this year, is it too early to sign up for Part B and request a January 1st effective date?

Yes. I tell people to do this 45-60 days before they want it to start. Definitely NO more than 90 days out (but even here I bet SS would screw it up)

If applying more than 30 days before their preferred start date, make sure they enter their requested Part B start date in the Section 9 Remarks Section of the CMS-40B form.
