UpLine vs Direct

I've worked as a medicare advisor for the 6 years and I enjoy it immensely, however, I'm curious about whether to be with a marketing agency vs direct to carriers. Is it true that MAPD are only sold thru FMO, IMO etc, Need insight pros and cons. Thanks

Partnering with the right FMO can definitely pour gas on the fire as far as sales go. They not only get a massive override on MAPD business, but they get a separate marketing budget over and above that to spend on agents. They can also fight for you if you find yourself on the wrong side of a complaint from a former client.

100% go threw a fmo . I'm getting very large marketing $'s and I've reached out to carriers myself for more . Some carriers want to contact the fmo and pay them . The carriers won't give 100% of mailers to me directly . They want a coop like 60-80% .A true Medicare fmo is big . I also send all my service work to them .

The only value I have found in going THROUGH an FMO is when you want a contract with a carrier that does not contract direct. All my ACTIVE contracts save one are direct, only one is THROUGH an IMO.

If your doing big business there's lots of advantages . I'm going to get $50-$60 k of marketing money this yr from the fmo . I'm building my business for no out of pocket marketing $.Now probably 80% of that is paid by CO's but without an fmo I'd never get it .

You've done a sick amount of business in a relatively short time, which def makes what you say important, and you would def be the person to give advice. I would say that if you did those numbers direct with a carrier, you would be offered a great deal of support as well.

The carriers have programs for high producing agents, that they don't advertise. I've participated in them at half your volume. However, I know that there are a lot of things the right fmo can do to make your business life better. I use a fantastic BGA for almost all the life business I do, simply because they will do anything to assist me.

What's nice about FMO support is they only expect a certain number of apps total. Carriers will expect that you write a number of deals with them in exchange for their marketing dollars. That presents a conflict of interest if you are trying to do what's best for the client.

Bingo . All my carriers production is 1 with the fmo . Like when I negotiate for marketing dollars with carrier regional . I must drop the mail in their county's as they get credit only in those county's . It's funny last yr a carrier I didn't do a ton of business with kep telling me they didn't give marketing money for dm . Aep I gave them a nice chunk of business and suddenly he says they can do it .
