Warm Vs. Cold Calls

I'm still new to this game and hear everybody speaking of "cold" calls. In that respect what makes a call no longer cold but warm? I've been building my prospect lists at night targeting newly married couples and homeowners in my area. I then search their names to try to find out as much about them as possible to make them more approachable. Is this still cold calling since I've never spoken with them or is it warm because I know a little about them???

Advice???

It is warm when they recognize you, know why you are calling and are open to the call. Still doesn't mean they are buying, but at least it is warm and an easy call.

I just got off the phone with the contingent bene on a new app I am doing. Called to get her DOB, address, job, kids, etc.. We joke a bit. That was not a cold call but not warm either. I will send her a nice talking to you email. Now when I call her again I consider that a warm call. We are on first name basis. That is when I start leading to quoting her family.
