What are your thoughts on sending mail pieces to T65?

I am currently prospecting the T65 market. I am using these small 4x5 inch blank greetings card. I guess what I am aiming for is that the prospect will think its a birthday greeting card or something. Everything is written by me, by hand, including the mailing address and return address on the envelope. Inside, I have inserted my business card magnet that I give to all my prospects and on the card I write about how if they are indeed turning 65 and may be starting Medicare soon, that they should contact me because....etc, etc.
the points I make in the short note are such things as: "Medicare can be tricky and confusing, Medicare has penalties,deadlines-you need expert advice, you should avoid telemarketers, i've been doing this for 20 plus years, I'm a local guy right here in town, i'll get you off to a good start with Medicare."

I am hoping this card will stand out from the rest of the clutter in the mailbox and they will open it, thinking its from a friend or family or what not.

I am just getting started. I mailed out less than 100 this week. So its too early for me to consider how effective it is. I plan to continue doing this, mailing 20-25 each day.

I was just wondering who else has tried something similar to this. I would also like to ask what agents think about this strategy. And what points do you think I should make on the card? Is it not a good idea?
I would love to hear what other agents are doing for prospecting T65 market.

100 per week. Are you following up with phone calls?

This amount seems too low to be successful. Most agents who use direct mail send out a couple thousand every month.

Those people are not sending hand written letters and envelopes.

To the OP, how do you find the time to send out 25 a day after 20 years in the biz? Congrats on the dedication but man I can find much better things to do with my time.
I would expect a 1% response rate, maybe even less. The thought here is, you'll get a smaller return but the ones who do respond will be easier to convert.
Considering your time is actually money spent, it's better to use a mail house. This method is great for someone new in the biz though.

Using a mail house means you don't get the lead back for at least one week. When I did direct mail for mortgage protection, I found a local printer, went to the post office and opened a Business Reply Mail account and received the leads the next day.

I personally did this circa 2106 to try something different, but it was 50 letters weekly.

It is the fastest way I know of to get to the point in life where you consider voluntarily checking into an insane asylum.

My hand hurts reading this. I would save your hand from pre arthritis onset, and save it for writing applications in the future. Waste of time.

Twice a month I spend 45 minutes mailing out hand written birthday cards . I bought 5000 bulk birthday cards . I've paying my son to fill out 3 lines on the birthday cards . He leaves the top line empty were I insert their name . He's also got a stamp to stamp my name and address on 5k envelopes. So twice a month I just have to hand write off my crm the name and address. I can just pull up a months birthdays off the crm and there in a line to fill out . I drop the birthday cards 2 times a month . I have a colored index card I insert in each card saying " Thank you for trusting me with your Medicare. The greatest compliments is to refer me to friends are family . I also do burial ins . The hand written huge . Few do it so you stand out

I would suggest mailing out 10-20 a week with a gift like a jar opener with your name and company and " Local Medicare agent " on it . Follow up with calls " my names Don. The reason for my call I wanted to make sure you got my jar opener in the mail . Then try to get an appt . Mail in tight areas $20-$75 k income and door knock the ones that you can't get in touch with .

My response rate on mailing out to T65's is less than 1%. I send out 20-30 a month. Not the best way to pick up clients.
