When They Won't/Don't Answer The Phone

Hey guys/gals. I wanted to start a discussion about prospects/leads that don't answer the phone. As we all know, with people getting blasted with tele-marketing calls every day, there are a lot less people that will answer phone calls.

I know field agents will say just go do a door knock if needed, and others will say do a door knock every time and never use the phone. I know from experience they both work beautifully as long as I have fresh exclusive leads and do the "grind".

For telesales agents the answer will be to use live transfers to avoid no answers when dialing out. Some telesales agents don't have the luxury of live transfers.

So.....if you've dialed someone 3-5 times per day; morning, noon, and night over a 2 week period, with no answer, what do you do to encourage a return phone call? Do you leave voice messages? Do you not leave voice messages in hopes they will call you back out of curiosity?

This is for calling people you've never spoken to before (a lead), not with people who already have a policy with you. Maybe we can have a healthy discussion sharing ideas. By the way, if you share an idea, state to everyone if you've actually used this idea. If you have used that idea what were your results?

Too much time on leads that don't answer cost more in missed opportunity by not spending more time on fresh leads

The lead type will determine how many times I will call, Will internet leads I call up to 3 times a day for 12 calls

A little more for tele leads and a little less per day but maybe few more calls form DM

Teleleads are useless after 12-24 hours. People never remember talking to you after that. Internet leads are worse..... they have a 2 hour window or less.

All these type of leads need to be using a Texting CRM that will auto text your clients as soon as the lead is available introducing yourself, etc. Most people under 70 now screen their calls and if they do not recognize the number it is pointless.

Voice mail, don't bother. Again, now no one listens to them. Newer studies show that email is opened only 20% of the time where as a Text is opened 80% of the time.

Texting, in a recent study by AgentQuote.com with over 300 FE agents participating, found that using internet leads showed that Texting a client immediately after being on the ad website (Facebook in this instant) increased the contact percentage from 45% to 70%. All because of the quick introduction a text to the client immediately after filling out the form. The percentage went to 80% when facebook clicked to the AgentQuote.com FE landing page and retrieved an instant Quote online.

Texting is the future for communicating with our new FE Clients for those agents not going out and door knocking that is.

My message on their voicemail... Hi Mr Jones, this is Doug Massi and I've got the "check". Please call me back at "my number"

When they call back and ask about the check. I say.... Yes sir, I was calling to "Check" your information and verify everything about the "Texas final expense benefits"... then I go straight into the lead info/presentation...

If you don't think this works... just try it...

You're welcome!

I know a lot of agents use this approach, expecting (hoping?) to wear them down and get them to pick up the phone or return a call.

Before EVERYONE had caller ID that approach probably worked.

Now most folks probably do what I do, ignore the caller but I do listen to the voice mail . . . IF they leave one.

My leads are all self generated. Most land in the auto-responder which cranks out up to 8 emails in succession. Each has an opt-out link.

The first thing my leads get is a proposal based on their data input. They probably have never seen a report like that and never will. I do a number of things to set myself apart from the pack.

I never call until at least 2 days have passed. If they run a quote on a Friday I don't call until Monday. Or Tuesday if it is a holiday weekend.

I call once. Either we talk or I leave a message.

If I get a wrong or disconnected number I send an email letting them know I am closing their file.

You might be surprised at the number of QUALIFIED prospects reach out after receiving the "closing your file" email. There is a very high probability they will become clients.

The take-away REALLY works.

Frankly, I have neither the time nor inclination to chase after people. Either they want my help or they don't.

If I have to BEG for the sale they will probably cancel their coverage within a few months.

Nope. I'd never say some sleeze scammy used car salesman BS. I don't really give a shit if I'm behind a screen anyone with any sense of integrity wouldn't say that. I knew from the second I read your post way back in the day calling out someone for their alcoholism how low a snake like you will go.

funny you think you could hurt my feelings lol

If you can't add anything positive up here please keep quiet. We don't want any negativity up here. Thanks in advance.

I Disagree on the shelf life of net leads . I've been pounding the door of net leads for 5 years and if its a good honest lead I've had no problem selling wether 3 hrs old or 3 months. Yes some have already bought but i'll just replace the policy as I have price busters. Tele leads suck after a few days as many had zero intent anyway as the telemarketer bullied them to give a yes an agent can call.

Do Facebook leads weather as well as other internet leads?
