Writing Out of State

I have a family that just moved to Florida(I'm in Ga) and the husband and wife need insurance.

What company would you guys write them with that takes a phone app?

Would it be worth the fee to get my Fla Non-Resident license for one sale?

It would be helpful to know what line of insurance you plan to write for them.

It may or may not make sense to get a non-resident license. It really depends on the size of the commission and how sure you are they will buy. Of course, you will then be able to write other business in Florida as well, so it may still be worth it.

If it is life/health, I recall FL was more of a pain than most states in getting appointed as they required fingerprints and a couple of different fees. That being said, I don't believe that you have to pay the fee again since as long as you stay appointed with a carrier, your license doesn't expire.

If it is a large account or if you are going to write a lot more Florida biz, I think it could make sense to get a non-res license. Otherwise, call up a buddy agent in Florida and make sure your client gets someone you know and trust (and maybe that agent will return the favor someday). Honestly, between the corp/individual licensing and the headache, it may not be worth making a few hundred extra bucks.

Not sure if your talking life or health. Health (depending on the company you write) they can complete and app online and even some life companies let you complete tele-apps. I've been in that scenario a few times... I bit the bullet and got nonresident. If you're assured they will buy from you then it will pay off in the long run for you... opens up your prospect zone.

Vol- I think they are looking for whole life 50-100k range. Husband and wife in their mid to late 30's with a couple of kids.

I don't get down to Florida but for vacation so I don't know if I would ever drive down to work the areas.

Any one have good Areas in Florida to work close to Ga in the FE market?

That policy should more than pay your licensing fee. One thing, Florida requires fingerprints, even if you already did it for your resident state. So it will take a while to get the license. Also, Florida has a $6 per county fee for non-residents. Not a big thing, just annoying.

I should have known, dealing with any state, that it would be more than paying one fee and done. I'll have to dig deeper, especially if I'm not going to be down there writing.
