Wrong Medicare ID Suffix Provided to Carriers

In the past few weeks I have had two people that needed to get their Med Supp Applications in, yet had not received their Medicare cards in the mail. In processing their apps and filling in the Medicare ID #, I just added the letter "A" to their Social Security number since this wage earner designation is the most common.

Today, I got a call from one of the people who told me that their Medicare ID card showed up and ends in "T" which I believe is for people who temporarily defer Social Security. Will this be an issue with the Supplement Carriers and PDP plans that the suffix is incorrect?

Bonus question: What if the Part A effective date is wrong on the app , but they definitely are enrolled years ago.

Yes it makes a difference and it's important that you fix it. Just call the carrier and update the claim number. Easy.

You need to make sure ALL information on the app is correct.

I have done that before. The carrier eventually catches the error, while confirming eligibility with Medicare. Happened on an Aetna app just last month, Aetna sent a form to the member to send back. But I just called the carrier and corrected it. This was with a Medsupp, not the PDP.

I did an e-app yesterday client couldn't remember exact month she went on medicare B so we ball parked it and the system popped a window on the screen showing what info (date and year on A and date and year on B) medicare had on her I said accept and we moved right along.

So it should not be too big of a deal the carrier should correct it for you.

what carrier was that? I've never seen anything like that before

If it's with Transamerica you'll need to have the client initial the change with his blood and then sign an endorsement.
