So i have a main website, but i want to do a big marketing campaign on a new found niche market.

should i make a second website with on its own server/domain and do seo and promote that website?

or make 2nd/new domain just point back to a page on my main website.

which will have a better effect for online seo and marketing etc...

I've seen my single page/individual sites do much worse than just adding more content to bolster an individual page. Unless it's a super minor niche, odds are you won't rank well for it.

How is the SEO working on your main page? Any reason to not add that to it?

have no seo on my main page, basically it was a quick site i put together that was unfinished. but i got a new product niche, it solely 1 product, and im trying to promote online as well as cold call.

trying to do a 1-2-3 streamline process. so either i get the info form cold call or someone fills out the form online, i get a quick quote, they ok it we bind within that day.

my main site and agency name has nothing to do with "insurance" so it can get confusing.

Basically, i want to get adwords, keyword etc... and try to push this into an online hot lead generating type website at the same time give the customer a place to request a certificate and submit claims.

If your current site is not brand new and is in good standing with Google, it may make sense to create a sub directory and add your new content there. Having an aged domain will make it a little easier/quicker to rank on serps than starting to optimize a newly indexed site. If you site is relatively new, then it might not make much difference. As Josh mentioned, trying to optimize and rank with a new site with thin content is going to be very difficult. One option is to create a blog on your current site (sub directory again), and add your landing page for your new niche, preferably with some type of opt in.

should i direct the new domain name to the main site? i remember someone said it has no bearing on seo though right.

what about a iframe inside my current site?

my main site is over 11 years old i believe, i purchased it off of someone who wasnt using it.

also, wouldnt a domain forwarding then a website pop up with a different name look shady and untrustworthy?

i'm trying to make the process for someone putting info as easy as possible and also as easy as possible to get a quote.

Depending on what your ultimate goal is, that will dictate what you will want to do.

If you are relying on other forms of marketing other than organic search engine results, such as Adwords, direct marketing, email marketing, etc, to drive traffic to your landing page, then it doesn't really matter if it is optimized and you can register a new domain, create an iframe or subdirectory on your current site, whatever.

If you want to optimize a site, either your current one or a new one, so that you can drive organic traffic to your site so that they can request a quote, then you need to think about content as part of your seo, and that is where it will be difficult to optimize a one page site or even your current un-optimized site by just adding an iframe or even a squeeze page. As I mentioned, it would probably be easier to optimize your current site since it is aged and already has some relevant links (I assume) and is in good standing with Google (again I assume). Adding a landing page, or iframe if you prefer, and better and continually fresh content will make Google happy to rank your current site for your optimized key words.

Hopefully I addressed your question.

to clarify, i would make a subdirectory mainsite.com/newsite and send newsite.com to mainsite.com/newsite

i'm using wordpress if that matters, so i'll put a wordpress inside a sub directory. and make a new site with adwords, facebook ads etc...

i just want people to remember the site name easier and giving info the easiest way possible. theres only about 300 searches a month online in my area for my specific niche.

currentsite.com/coolniche is probably going to be your best bet. New sites are a dime a dozen and google knows that. "Keyword sniping" by picking an EMD domain and over-optimizing it for a single keyword is something they don't generally reward anymore. I've even taken a hit by using my Affordable Marketing Lists | Compare us to Sales Genie on the keyword "marketing lists" even though it's a very legitimate use of the exact wording.

On the other hand, I can get good traffic off keywords that have nothing to do with my domain but I have good content on.

Go with what josh is recommending. If its still an insurance product its still relevant to your agency. Take a look at major insurance sites they just create new pages for different products.

Farmers.com doest have farmerslife.com, farmersauto.com, farmershome.com they just use something like farmers.com/auto/ ect.

Sometimes it makes sense to use a sub domain like auto.farmers.com but not in your situation.

It will set you back more to have an individual site for each service you offer vs just using a new navigation tab or link for the other service. This way if people are on your home page they can see all the services you pprovide. Its usually a better user experience.

does it matter if im making a new page or adding a new wordpress install inside the sub directory?

I want to have a NEW wordpress install the subdirectory because i want another logo/sub brand for my main site. I want it to be known for one or 2 products only so all the buttons and links inside the subdirectory doesnt refer back to the main site.
